Job summary

Columbia Sportswear Company is seeking a Co-Manager to lead day-to-day store operations in Portland, ME, reporting to the Store Manager. You will drive sales, improve service, and execute marketing directives to grow the customer base. This role emphasizes high store standards and a positive team environment.

The candidate will guide associates, manage staffing, and develop talent across levels to support career progression within the store and company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or applicable certification; equivalent experience welcome.
  • Minimum 3 years of functional experience; no formal management required but prior leadership of projects/people.
  • Proficient with POS systems and various software packages.

  • Provide leadership, direction and coaching to other leadership and associate staff.
  • Identify and create plans to enhance employee productivity and performance.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service and problem-solving by assisting customers and resolving escalated complaints.
  • Maintain inventory levels through effective replenishment, organization, shrink control and communication.
  • Identify store hiring needs and conduct interviewing, hiring and training for staff.
  • Motivate, educate, guide, and develop associates to meet long-range growth plans and career paths.
  • Assist the store leadership team on other responsibilities as needed.

ABOUT THE POSITION

With over 430 retail stores worldwide, our Store Leadership Teams are essential to our business. From ensuring effective store operations, strategies, and procedures, to guiding and developing team members, our Store Leadership Teams help create memorable customer experiences while supporting and helping drive the company’s mission of “Connecting Active People with Their Passions.” As a Co-Manager, you will be a leader who plans and directs the day-to-day operations of the store, primarily guided by the Store Manager. This role executes strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales, increase profitability, and implement marketing and promotional directives to increase sales and grow our existing customer base. You will be responsible for driving high store standards and conditions while fostering a positive team environment, developing associates of all levels to prepare them best to successfully obtain their career goals.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
  • Provides leadership, direction and coaching to the other leadership and associate staff.
  • Identify and create plans to enhance employee productivity and performance (e.g., track employee results and make suggestions for modifying goals accordingly)
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service and problem-solving skills by assisting customers regarding products, features, benefits, availability, and resolving escalated complaints.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels through effective replenishment, organization, shrink control, and communication.
  • Identify store hiring needs and conduct interviewing, hiring, and training for store staff, conduct and plan employee training, development, and coaching.
  • Motivate, educate, guide, and develop associates to meet long-range growth plans/career paths within the store, field, and general office.
  • Assist the store leadership team on other responsibilities as needed.
YOU HAVE
  • YOU HAVE Bachelor's degree, applicable certification or equivalent experience 3 years of functional experience No formal management experience required, however has experience in leading projects and people Strong problem-solving skills; ability to resolve technical, operational and organizational problems and drive decisions that impact finances, efficiency and effectiveness of the store.
  • Skill operating a Point of Sales (POS) system, and various software packages.
JOB CONDITIONS

Frequently in an active environment (i.e., requires the ability to constantly move about) that can be physical or strenuous (frequently adjusting/moving items weighing up to 40 lbs.), may frequently use specialized equipment, may have exposure to dust and noise. Occasionally requires the ability to work in place Availability to work a flexible retail schedule, which may change seasonally and in response to location-specific business trends or forecasts.
