Job description

At Hirsh Precision, we build complex parts that power breakthroughs in medical, aerospace, industrial, and scientific applications. We combine advanced software, modern manufacturing systems, and disciplined processes to raise the bar on productivity and product innovation—while upholding a culture of integrity, quality, service, and excellence.A Day in This RoleYou arrive to a clean, organized cell and review your traveler and blueprint. Under guidance, you complete a basic setup on a CNC or Swiss lathe, load raw bar or billets, and run the first piece. With calipers and micrometers in hand, you verify dimensions, adjust offsets if needed, and document results. Throughout the shift you keep machines cutting, record counts and downtime accurately, watch for tool wear, and keep scrap to a minimum. You wrap up by tidying your station and noting any improvements for the next run.Role OverviewThis is an entry path into precision turning. As a CNC Lathe/Swiss operator working under supervision, you will produce tight-tolerance components that meet customer specifications and company quality standards. You’ll perform basic setups, execute tool changes and offsets as trained, load materials, monitor production, inspect parts, and maintain a safe, orderly workspace. Along the way, you’ll learn blueprint reading, machining fundamentals, and Hirsh Precision processes. The position is intentionally developmental, with a growth path to Machinist II based on skill progression, reliability, quality results, and machine proficiency. What You’ll DoMachine Operation & ProductionOperate CNC and Swiss lathes under supervisionPerform basic setups, tool changes, and offsets in line with trainingLoad raw materials and watch machines during operationRun parts to blueprint, work instructions, and quality standardsAccurately record production counts, downtime, and other job dataSupport schedule adherence and machine utilizationQuality ControlUse calipers, micrometers, gauges, and indicators for measurementInspect first-article and in-process parts for conformanceEscalate quality issues, tool wear, or process concerns promptlyHelp cut scrap and rework through disciplined processes and detail focusBlueprint Reading & Technical LearningInterpret basic prints, dimensions, and tolerancesApply foundational GD&T concepts as trainedLearn machine controls, tooling fundamentals, and turning processesParticipate in cross-training, coaching, and continuous improvementQualificationsRequiredHigh school diploma or GED preferredMechanical aptitude and eagerness to learn machiningBasic math: decimals, fractions, measurementsAbility to read and use measuring tools accuratelyReliable attendance and punctualityPreferredExperience in manufacturing or machiningExposure to CNC equipment or technical trainingIntroductory blueprint-reading knowledgePhysical Demands & EnvironmentStanding for long periodsOccasional lifting up to 50 poundsFrequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand motionsManufacturing setting with noise, coolant, and moving machineryMachines & Technologies You’ll UseCNC Lathe (2-4 axis) (Mazak, Haas, Okuma, Dmg Mori Seiki)CNC Swiss Lathe (Tsugami, Citizen, Star)CNC Lathe (5+ axis) (Okuma, Dmg Mori Seiki, Mazak)Calipers and Micrometers
