Job summary

Torrey Holistics is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to interpret blueprints and set up and operate conventional and special-purpose machines to fabricate precise metallic parts.

You will study drawings, select fixtures, and calculate speeds and feeds to ensure parts meet tight tolerances, performing trial runs and quality checks with micrometers and gauges. The role emphasizes safety, maintenance, and collaboration with engineers and production teams.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years in manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Solid blueprint reading skills for IDs, ODs, surfaces and simple shapes.
  • Capable of machining to tight tolerances; proficient with micrometers.
  • Experience with stainless and tool steel alloys preferred.
  • Ability to edit CNC programs and set up production runs.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and run conventional and special-purpose machines to fabricate metallic parts.
  • Study blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications to define dimensions and setups.
  • Measure and scribe reference points to guide machining steps.
  • Select, align, and secure fixtures and tools for equipment operation.
  • Calculate and set controls for speed, feed, coolant, depth and angle of cut.
  • Start and observe machine operation; detect malfunctions and adjust accordingly.
  • Run trial pieces to verify accuracy; check finished work with gauges and micrometers.
  • Maintain safe operations by following safety procedures and perform preventive maintenance.

A day in the shopMorning starts with a blueprint in hand and a plan. You’ll interpret drawings, sketches, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequences, and setups. You’ll choose and align the right fixtures and tools, set speeds and feeds, perform trial runs, and verify with micrometers and gauge blocks. Throughout the day, you’ll monitor machines, adjust for any out-of-tolerance conditions, and collaborate with engineers and production to resolve challenges. You’ll close the loop with safe practices, preventive maintenance, and thorough documentation.What you'll doSet up and run conventional and special-purpose machines to fabricate metallic parts.Apply machine shop theory, shop math, machinability knowledge, and layout techniques.Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to define dimensions, tolerances, operation sequences, and setup needs.Measure, mark, and scribe reference points on stock to guide subsequent machining steps.Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on equipment such as saws, mills, grinders, burning and drilling machines.Calculate and set controls for speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut.Start and observe machine operation; detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions and make adjustments.Run trial pieces to verify accuracy of machine settings and setups.Check finished work using micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.When needed, develop specs from general descriptions and create simple sketches of parts to be fabricated.Partner with engineers and production personnel to troubleshoot machining or assembly problems.Maintain safe operations by following all safety procedures and regulations.Perform preventive maintenance per manufacturer guidance; troubleshoot malfunctions and coordinate repairs.Scope of the roleYou will set up, operate, and adjust machining equipment to produce precise metallic components aligned with blueprints and specifications.
