Job summary

Scientific Tool, Inc. is seeking an experienced machinist to set up and operate CNC lathes and mills. You will read blueprints, select tooling, and prepare equipment for production while ensuring parts meet specifications and quality standards.

You will mount tooling, perform program changes, run dry tests, and supervise first part acceptance, then continue with production runs and routine maintenance. This role is based in New York and requires a strong eye for detail and safety.

Qualifications

• 5 years’ experience as a First Class Machinist preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Reads/interprets blueprints and planning data to determine tooling needs and setup procedures.
• Mounts and secures tooling and workpieces on machines.
• Selects and installs required tooling in designated positions.
• Prepares tooling for next sequence to minimize downtime.
• Initiates/edits CNC programs to efficiently produce parts meeting specs.
• Sets machine controls for tooling position, cutting depth, speed, coolant flow.
• Starts machine, monitors operation and detects malfunctions.
• Performs dry run to verify program/tooling placement and production readiness.
• Manufactures first part and secures first piece approval.
• Verifies finished parts against specs and maintains control records.
• Deburrs work, changes tools as needed, and records conformance.
• Cleans work area and performs routine machine maintenance.
