Job summary

Omega Engineering Inc. in Swedesboro, NJ is seeking a CNC Setup Operator II to set up and program/operate precision CNC machines in a manufacturing environment.

You will review drawings, select fixtures and tools, adjust speeds/feeds, verify parts with calipers/micrometers, perform first-piece inspections, edit existing programs, change tooling, and maintain safety and cleanly work areas.

Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret drawings, blueprints, and written instructions with limited supervision to setup and operate CNC equipment.
  • Familiar with M & G Codes and how they are used to edit programs.
  • Ability to verify parts using quality measuring devices.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to lean and reach.
  • Able to run manual equipment.
  • Formal CNC training and 3+ years CNC experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews drawings, blueprints, sketches, manuals or sample parts to determine setup requirements.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angles.
  • Input or retrieve the correct program code from the machine and network.
  • Perform first piece inspections and in-process quality checks using micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, go/no-go gauges, comparators.
  • Make minor edits to existing programs; changes are checked by experienced personnel.
  • Change tooling and offsets to meet tolerances and specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment.
  • Complete required paperwork such as routing sheets and time sheets.
  • Collaborate with supervision, area leaders, programmers, engineers to resolve machining issues.
  • Maintain acceptable production levels according to standards.
  • Maintain housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.

CNC Setup Operator II

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews drawings, blueprints, sketches, manuals or sample parts to determine, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines. Checks for functionality and performance.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angles, etc.
  • Able to input or retrieve the correct program code from the machine and network.
  • Perform first piece inspections and in-process quality control checks by using tools such as micrometers, calipers, depth gages, go no-go gages, comparators, etc.
  • Able to make minor edits to existing programs, all set up and edits are checked by more experienced personnel.
  • Change tooling and offsets when necessary to assure product is meeting tolerances and specifications.
  • Performs routine maintenance on machines and equipment.
  • Completes required paper work such as routing sheet, time sheet and etc.
  • Confers with Supervision, area leaders, programmers, engineers, or others to resolve machining or assembly issues.
  • aintains acceptable levels of production according to established standards.
  • Practices good housekeeping and safety procedures and adheres to all company policies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to interpret drawings, blueprints, and written / verbal instructions with limited supervision to setup and operate CNC equipment.
  • Familiar with M & G Codes as well as understanding how they are used to make edits in programs
  • Ability to verify parts using quality measuring devices.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Able to lean and reach.
  • Able to run manual equipment

Education and/or Experience:

  • Formal CNC Training preferred
  • 3+ years’ CNC experience
