Job summary

Southland Steel is seeking a CNC Machinist to set up and operate CNC mills and lathes, producing machined parts while upholding safety and quality standards.

The role requires reading blueprints, basic math, tool setup, and loading parts. Candidates should have CNC robotics experience, welding knowledge, and background in heavy structural fabrication; strong communication and stamina are essential for long-standing work periods.

Qualifications

• Experience with CNC Robotics is required.
• Written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of properties of metal and other materials
• Knowledge of basic shop mathematics.
• Experience in heavy structural fabrication.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings and welding symbols.
• Proficient in effective operation of welding equipment.

Responsibilities

• Plans machine by studying work orders, blueprints, plans, materials, specifications, and machine parameters.
• Configure mills and lathes by entering instructions, setting tool registers, calculating requirements, including basic math.
• Load machine with work pieces
• Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces.
• Maintain specifications by observing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, sharpening, and replacing worn tools, adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
• Meets production goals in terms of cycle time, quantity, and quality.
• Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests.

• Ability to frequently handle (hold, seize, grasp, turn, etc.) tools, equipment, or material.
• Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, including cold, heat, and humidity.
