Job summary

Alco Manufacturing Corporation in Kirkville, NY is seeking a CNC Programmer & Supervisor to lead a production cell and program CNC equipment for quality, delivery, and cost goals. This full-time role runs Monday-Thursday, 6am-4:30pm, with a four-day work week and salary of $30–$35 per hour.

You will supervise the production, engineering and quality staff, develop processes, provide quotes to Sales, and ensure safety and continuous improvement across departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, manufacturing technology, or related field.
  • 3–5 years’ experience on CNC machines or similar industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and MRP applications.
  • Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Program CNC equipment, set tools and troubleshoot machining issues.
  • Supervise production, engineering and quality staff to meet customer needs.
  • Provide quotes to Sales Department as requested.
  • Plan production processes for parts during PECT.
  • Develop and review machine layouts; document changes to layouts.
  • Coordinate cross-department activities; ensure safety and continuous improvement.

4 Day Work Week!! Monday through Thursday 6am-430pm Basic Function: Overall goal is to operate a production department, ensuring that customers receive satisfactory quality, delivery & price while maintaining an adequate return within company standards for safety, quality & productivity. Essential Functions:
  • Ability to Program CNC equipment, set all tools and to troubleshoot machining problems as necessary.
  • Supervising, coordinating and providing leadership to the production, engineering and quality staff to produce quality parts while satisfactorily meeting customer needs. Evaluate and recommend changes in methods and procedures within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Provide quotes to Sales Department as requested.
  • Work with Quality and Engineering to plan production process for parts during PECT process.
  • Develop and/or review machine layouts and program & set up machine per layout. Discuss and agree upon changes to layout with Engineering as appropriate. Document all changes to machine/tool layout.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining problems.
  • Instruct other employees in use, care and operation of machines as appropriate.
  • Assist in planning day-to-day department operations. Develop and implement work methods and authorizes overtime.
  • Assure that a culture of Safety is expected and encourage all employees/guests within the company.
  • Coordinate work efforts in a positive manner with the company departments, quality, shipping, accounting, purchasing, Human Resource and other departments, while adhering to the company policies and procedures for those departments.
  • Assist in evaluation and implementation of training needs for staff members to carry out their job duties in an effective manner.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Perform maintenance on and repair mechanical problems on machines as necessary.
  • Communicate all necessary information to Management, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, other production departments and fellow employees in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Complete all paperwork per proper procedures (routing card, tool change logs, count sheets, etc.). Properly identify parts and enter production into the information system.
  • Housekeeping: maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner, keep floors clean and free of oil, chips & debris.
  • Perform all safety inspections to equipment daily, use proper machine guards and lifting techniques.
  • May schedule, coordinate material availability & machine utilization to maximize efficiency & productivity.
  • May conduct performance evaluation and salary reviews for assigned staff under the direction of the Production Manager.
  • Responsible for all other duties as necessary to ensure department meets all key measures.
  • Follow company policies, procedures and safety rules as described in the company handbook.
Knowledge, skills and ability
  • Leadership: A strong willingness and demonstrated ability to lead people and obtain results through others. Supervision: including employee hiring and retention, performance review, coaching, counseling and corrective action.
  • Working knowledge of basic math, Microsoft Office, and MRP applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Global Shop).
  • Thorough knowledge of CNC lathe machines, machining production process; purchasing; tooling and inventory control.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; understand and be flexible to meet customer needs.
  • Ability to creatively resolve problems; take initiative to plan & act proactively and the ability to implement company standards.
  • Ability to apply best practices in Quality management, Measurement of performance to goals and standards, systems and continuous improvement, problem analysis and resolution, inventory management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, apply Kaizen training and maintain safe work environment. Strong team player.
  • Setup/repair knowledge may be preferred for night shift supervisors.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business administration, manufacturing technology, or related field,
  • 3-5 years’ experience on CNC machines or similar industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements:
  • Light work - lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
  • May reach for tooling on shelving.
  • Bend, stoop or crouch to review problem parts.
  • Use fingers & hands to manipulate parts & close visual concentration while inspecting parts/attachments.
  • Repetitive motion required for using computer.
  • Frequent standing and walking to perform duties.
