Job summary

Magna Powertrain in Sterling Heights, MI is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to develop and optimize programs for lathes and vertical mills, ensuring parts meet tight tolerances and production deadlines.

The role requires at least five years of CNC programming and setup experience, G-Code proficiency, and knowledge of inspection tools such as CMM, with opportunities for advanced training and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum five (5) years of CNC programming and setup experience.
• Working knowledge of G-Code programming and operations (journeyman card preferred).
• Advanced knowledge of turning and milling machining fundamentals.
• Experience in production machining (lathe, mill) and induction hardening; CMM experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop CNC programs manually and with software for efficient machining.
• Set up, adjust and troubleshoot CNC lathes and vertical mills to meet quality requirements.
• Operate in-line gauging and interpret readings.
• Collaborate with maintenance, tool & die, QA and engineering for part improvements.
• Train CNC operators in tool changes and robot teaching.
• Ensure setups minimize downtime, scrap and tooling costs; meet production targets.
