Job summary

LAIKA is seeking a proficient CNC Programmer to support CNC manufacturing for multiple studio departments in a Hillsboro, OR setting. You will program, set up, prove out, operate, and inspect small-batch prototype precision parts, collaborating across artists, engineers, and designers.

The role requires 3+ years of CNC programming experience, with strong skills in 3-axis milling, G-code, and GD&T. On-site work with a focus on precision and process improvement.

Qualifications

• 3+ years CNC programming experience.
• Experience with 3-axis CNC mills.
• Ability to independently create a process plan from models/drawings.
• Machining small/ high-detail parts with tight tolerances (±0.001).
• Strong understanding of cutting tools, toolholders, and feeds.
• Ability to read/interpret drawings, CAD models, and GD&T.
• Experience reading and editing G-code and macro variables.
• Strong troubleshooting and independent work capability.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings to determine machining approach, tooling, workholding, setup sequence, and inspection plan.
• Create CNC programs for 3-axis milling using ESPRIT EDGE.
• Set up, prove out, operate, and troubleshoot CNC programs on Haas mills, Makino U3/ other equipment.
• Provide setup directions, process notes, and inspection expectations to CNC Operators.
• Use simulation and probing to verify programs before and during prove-out.
• Select tools, holders, fixtures, and speeds/feeds.
• Read GD&T and edit G-code as needed.
• Occasional CAD work in Autodesk Inventor to support fixtures.
• Collaborate with artists, engineers, and designers in a nontraditional environment.
