Job summary

Honeycomb Company of America in Florida is seeking a skilled CNC Programmer to design and write 5-axis programs for aerospace components. You will work with CAD models, determine tool paths, tools, speeds, and feeds, and validate instructions with CNC machinists.

Attention to detail and teamwork are essential. Qualifications include an AA/2-year degree or equivalent, GD&T knowledge, and hands-on experience with MasterCam, SolidWorks, and CATIA.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or three months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous experience as a machinist or machine setter, operator, and tender along with apprenticeship programs, informally on the job, or training in secondary, vocational, or technical college.
• Experience working with aerospace industry materials.
• Working knowledge of GD&T.
• Experience with computers, electronics, computer numerical control, basic programming using G and M codes, and computer-aided manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Designs and carry out the tool path operations needed to make machined products that meet precise specifications.
• Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data to determine dimensions, cuts, tools, and speeds/feeds.
• Prepares geometric layout and reference points for cutting paths using CAD tools.
• Works with Engineering CAD modelers and CNC machinists to ensure parts meet requirements.
• Supports CNC machinists on trial runs and verifies instructions; revises programs as needed.

SUMMARY

Creates computer numerical control programs used for 5 axis machining of aerospace components.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Designs and carry out the tool path operations needed to make machined products that meet precise specifications. Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates, according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities. Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths. Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part. Prepares geometric layout on graph paper or using computer-assisted drafting software to show location of reference points and direction of cutting paths, using drafting instruments or computer. Works directly with Engineering CAD modelers and CNC machinists to ensure parts are machined to requirements. Supports CNC machinists on trial runs to prove programmed instructions. Writes instruction sheets and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machine. Compares computer printout with original program sheet to assure accuracy of machine instructions. Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Computer Skills: Must be proficient in Master Cam. Also must have working knowledge in Solidworks and CATIA CAD software.
