Job summary

FMI Aerostructures, a long‑standing aerospace manufacturer in Santa Clarita, CA, seeks a senior CNC programmer to design, write, and edit programs for 5-axis mills. You will review drawings, GD&T, select tools, set speeds/feeds, and ensure quality per aerospace standards.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years CNC programming experience.
  • Experience programming 5 Axis vertical and horizontal mills.
  • Knowledge of high temp alloys (titanium, Inconel, aluminum, stainless steel).
  • Proficient in CATIA V5.
  • Working knowledge of 3D solid modeling concepts and design skills.
  • U.S. person status per ITAR.

Responsibilities

  • Write, develop, and edit CNC programs with continuous improvements.
  • Plan machining operations from orders, drawings, specs, and tools.
  • Interpret GD&T and tolerances on prints.
  • Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing to resolve manufacturability issues.
  • Create programming instructions: offsets, tool registers, and switches; determine tooling needs.
  • Analyze drawings to determine dimensions, tooling, speeds, and feeds.
  • Occasionally setup and operate CNC equipment as needed.
  • Verify specs by measuring with gauges and fixtures; ensure quality control during production.

Responsibilities


  • Write, develop, and edit CNC programs in conjunction with continuous improvements

  • Plan machining operations by reviewing work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters;

  • interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).

  • Coordinates with engineering and manufacturing staff to resolve issues regarding manufacturability of designs

  • Create Programming instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.

  • Analyze drawings, blueprints, and design data in order to calculate correct part dimension for machines,

  • tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates.

  • Occasionally set up and operate CNC equipment as needed.

  • Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing,

  • knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to

  • quality assurance procedures and processes.

  • Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers, and fixtures and gauges

  • to check work and perform detailed inspection of parts produced

  • Read Instrumentation and gauges to accurately measure dimensions on parts being machined within specified tolerance.

  • Completing quality control tests during the manufacturing stage and on the final product.


Requirements


  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in CNC programming

  • Experience programming 5 Axis vertical and horizontal mill machines.

  • Must have knowledge of high temp alloy metals such as titanium, Inconel, aluminum and stainless steels

  • Must be proficient in CATIA V5

  • Must having working knowledge of 3D solid modeling concepts and design skills.

  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
