Job summary

Industrious Group Inc. is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to translate blueprints into tool paths, write and modify G-code, and set up machines for precision parts. You will select cutting tools, fixtures, and optimize programs for efficiency while maintaining quality.

Qualifications

  • Five years’ experience programming CNC lathes and/or mills.
  • Blueprint reading is required with a high level of experience.
  • Degree or certification or equivalent job experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain tooling and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Interpreting blueprints and designs to determine tolerances and final shapes.
  • Developing CNC programs and optimizing toolpaths, speeds, and feeds.
  • Choosing cutting tools and fixtures based on material and geometry.
  • Setting up and adjusting machines including tool selection and clamping.
  • Testing and troubleshooting to ensure programs run correctly and safely.
  • Staying current with advancements in CNC technology and processes.

Job Description
Position Summary & Objective

A CNC programmer develops and modifies computer programs to control the operation of CNC machines, translating blueprints and design specifications into instructions for the machine to cut and shape materials into desired forms. They work with software, choose cutting tools, and ensure the machine functions correctly and produces high-quality parts.

Essential Functions Performed By The Position
Interpreting Blueprints and Designs
  • Understanding technical drawings, specifications, and design models to determine the desired shape, dimensions, and tolerances of the final product.
Developing CNC Programs
  • Creating and modifying G-code or other programming languages to instruct the CNC machine on how to cut and shape the material, including toolpaths, speeds, feeds, and other machine parameters.
  • Optimize program efficiency to fully utilize machine capabilities including adjusting tool paths, speed and feed rates.
Choosing Cutting Tools And Fixtures
  • Selecting appropriate tools, fixtures, and other equipment based on the material, part geometry, and required accuracy.
Setting Up And Adjusting Machines
  • Configuring the CNC machine for specific jobs, including tool selection, clamping, and other preparations.
Testing And Troubleshooting
  • Verifying that the program functions correctly, identifying and resolving errors, and adjusting the program or machine settings as needed.
Staying Current With Technology
  • Keeping up with advancements in CNC technology, programming languages, and manufacturing processes.

Troubleshooting
  • Addressing any issues that arise during the manufacturing process, such as tool breakage, or program errors.
Maintaining Tooling And Documentation
  • Keeping track of tooling inventory, maintaining tooling databases, and documenting the manufacturing process.
Collaborating With Others
  • Working with engineers, machinists, and other team members to ensure efficient and accurate production of parts.
  • Proactive communication with vendors to ensure tooling availability for production.
Required Education And Experience
  • Degree or certification or equivalent job experience.
  • Five years’ experience programming CNC lathes and/or mills.
