Responsibilities

  • Proficient in writing CNC programs from blueprints for turning and milling machines.
  • Load electronic files onto machines and verify programs via dry runs.
  • Interpret drawings and specs to determine dimensions, tolerances, and sequences.
  • Maintain tight tolerances and ensure product quality during production.
  • Create setup sheets and monitor tool performance and setup accuracy.
  • Revise programs using engineering changes and document updates.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and engineers to resolve machine or quality issues.
  • Assist in continuous process improvements and reduce machine time.
  • Instruct CNC operators and ensure daily machine performance is communicated.
  • Label parts and ensure correct tooling is used and verified.
  • Support quality checks with the QA team and ensure ISO procedures.
  • Collaborate with quality and shop personnel to resolve defects and improve processes.
  • Comply with safety, ISO quality program, and company policies.
  • Adapt to variable hours based on customer needs and production capabilities.
  • Coordinate with Quality to ensure parts meet specifications.

Job description

Job Description: United Valve, a leading provider of valve repair, modification and testing services, is seeking an experienced CNC programmer to join our team in Houston, Texas. Successful candidates will use prior programming skills, relevant to the valve industry, to assist both the Engineering and Production Departments the manufacturing of various valve components.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. 1) Proficient in writing programs from blueprints and/or sold models for the CNC turning and milling machines
  2. 2) Load electronic files onto the machine
  3. 3) Studies and interprets drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and set-up requirements to maximize efficiencies
  4. 4) Work within very close tolerances to ensure product quality
  5. 5) Create set-up sheets based on tooling selection criteria
  6. 6) Monitor and verify the accuracy of each job’s initial set-up and outcome.
  7. 7) Responsible for the machine performance and product outcome of assigned projects.
  8. 8) Maintain library of programs and revise programs and documents based on engineering changes
  9. 9) Works for continuous process improvements and machine time reductions, reporting program changes to turning and milling supervisor and/or manufacturing engineer
  10. 10) Keeps CNC operators abreast of daily machine performance and project updates
  11. 11) Verifies correct tools against tool sheet and program; sets up any type of tool in the pre-setter and/or machine
  12. 12) Downloads program to the machine, dry run machine with no material and all tools in place
  13. 13) Monitor screen pages and machine operation to detect out of tolerance machining – adjust machine controls or control media; verifies the correct program is running in the machine
  14. 14) As an operator, complies with and maintains inspection procedure throughout production run
  15. 15) Instruct CNC operator(s) on required tasks to keep machine in operation
  16. 16) Notifies turning and mill supervisor of problems with equipment and/or tooling that may cause defects/lost time
  17. 17) Maintains good quality and production output
  18. 18) Labels parts to send to next operation
  19. 19) Demonstrates ability to streamline processes to increase productivity and quality; production and prototype jobs are setup consistently, timely and accurately.
  20. 20) Assists in solving plant operating problems and/or cost reduction projects
  21. 21) Communicates with supervisor, engineers, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machine or quality issues.
  22. 22) Within the scope of the law will be required to adhere to and comply with state and federal law, Company ISO quality program and procedures, Company policies and Safety and Environmental Regulations.
  23. 23) Other duties as assigned, hours and days may vary due to customer need and business capabilities
  24. 24) Coordinates with Quality department to insure parts comply with specifications.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Esprit software for milling and turning, tooling, tooling selection and Fanuc controls is a requirement
  • Detailed knowledge of turning and milling CNC machines; proficient in set-up, operation and programming of machine.Detailed knowledge reading blueprints and geometric tolerances and dimensions, engineering.
  • Detailed knowledge of precision measuring equipment and the application of such instruments – including but not limited to calipers, ID / OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars and inserts used on various machines and
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Inventor drafting software.
  • High school Diploma or equivalent with at least 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Physical Demands and Qualifications:
  • Must be able to move and or lift parts up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, squat, reach, lift and carry
