Job summary

The CNC Programmer at BAY CAST FOUNDRY, LLC collaborates with production, quality, and shop personnel to develop and optimize CNC programs and setups. You will plan operations, select tooling, and ensure accurate programming using Mastercam and various controls.

You will troubleshoot programs, document machining processes, and drive continuous improvement in manufacturing efficiency and quality while working in a hands-on, fast-paced shop environment in Michigan.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years CNC programming experience in a job shop, prototype, or aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with workholding and tool design.
  • Experience creating and documenting machining processes.
  • Familiarity with inspection processes and procedures.

Job description

The CNC Programmer works directly with production, quality, and shop personnel to facilitate day-to-day production. This role requires critical thinking about the parts being manufactured and the ability to determine the sequence of operations, setup procedures, and produce CNC programs. The CNC Programmer is responsible for identifying and implementing plans to continuously improve manufacturing processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Write CNC programs using Mastercam with accurate, well-planned tooling.
  • Troubleshoot and refine CNC programs and manufacturing processes.
  • Design and specify tools and fixturing to support production requirements.
  • Plan machine setups to keep every operation running smoothly and efficiently.
  • Partner with the Quality Engineer to support part inspections and adjust programs or processes as needed.

Requirements
Experience
  • Preferred: 3–5 years of CNC programming experience in a job shop, prototype, or aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with workholding and tool design.
  • Experience creating and documenting machining processes.
  • Familiarity with inspection processes and procedures.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Mastercam software (version 2018 or later), including interface navigation, geometry and toolpath creation, simulation, and post-process understanding.
  • Experience programming Fanuc, Heidenhain, or Siemens 840D controls.
  • Experience with 4-axis and/or 5-axis milling.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Strong critical-thinking skills to determine the sequence of operations and setup procedures for a variety of parts.
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements that increase manufacturing efficiency and quality.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with production, quality, and shop personnel.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, reliable CNC programs.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple programming projects, and prioritize effectively.
Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit or stand at a computer workstation for extended periods while programming.
  • Ability to move throughout the shop floor to review setups, tooling, and part inspections.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and lift materials as needed to support tooling and fixture setup.
