Experienced CNC Lathe Programmers and Setup Machinists

Midwest Precision is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Programmer / Setup Machinist who can independently program, set up, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC turning operations.

This is not an entry-level CNC operator position. The person selected must be able to take a job from blueprint review through programming, complete machine setup, first-piece inspection, and production.

Midwest Precision is a precision contract manufacturer serving aerospace, defense, and other highly regulated industries. Our machinists produce complex components that require close tolerances, strong problem-solving skills, and consistent attention to quality.

What You Will Do
  • Independently program, set up, and operate CNC lathes and turning centers.
  • Create new programs and modify existing programs using Mazatrol conversational programming, Fanuc controls, and Okuma OSP controls.
  • Program directly at the machine control when required.
  • Complete machine setups from blueprint review through first-piece approval.
  • Set up and operate equipment such as:
    • Mazak CNC turning centers
    • Okuma CNC lathes
    • Mori Seiki CNC lathes
    • Comparable multi-axis CNC turning equipment
  • Select and install tooling, inserts, fixtures, jaws, and workholding components.
  • Establish tool offsets, work offsets, and machine settings.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, work instructions, and customer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot programming, tooling, setup, workholding, dimensional, and surface-finish issues.
  • Optimize feeds, speeds, tooling, and machining sequences to improve cycle time and tool life.
  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Maintain close tolerances and ensure parts meet all drawing and customer requirements.
  • Accurately complete production, inspection, and traceability documentation.
  • Work with Engineering, Quality, and Production to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Support and train less-experienced machinists when needed.
  • Follow all Midwest Precision safety, quality, AS9100, ISO, ITAR, and customer requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • At least five years of CNC lathe programming, setup, and machining experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently complete full CNC lathe setups.
  • Experience programming with Mazatrol.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Okuma OSP, or comparable CNC controls.
  • Strong knowledge of G-code, tooling, offsets, feeds, speeds, and machining processes.
  • Ability to read complex blueprints and apply GD&T.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting programming, tooling, setup, and quality problems.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Must meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements.

Candidates whose experience is limited to loading parts, making basic offsets, or operating previously established jobs will not meet the minimum qualifications for this position.

Preferred Experience
  • Mazak, Okuma, or Mori Seiki CNC turning equipment.
  • Multi-axis turning, live tooling, or complex machined components.
  • Aerospace, defense, or regulated precision manufacturing.
  • Cycle-time reduction and machining-process improvement.
