Job Purpose:

This role involves processing steel plates and sheets using CNC Plasma and Oxy-Fuel Burning machines. The operator will handle all aspects of machine operation, ensuring smooth workflow and high production levels.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate Plasma/Oxy-Fuel machines and Oxy-Fuel Track Torch according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Perform daily maintenance and lubrication.
  • Use overhead cranes and forklifts to unload, store, and stage raw materials, verifying correctness per order and following SSAB’s ISO 9001 procedures.
  • Ensure correct product positioning and proper identification and packaging of finished goods as per production orders or specifications.
  • Record production data electronically or manually as required.
  • Report equipment issues to Maintenance or Operations Management.
  • Conduct daily inspections of lifting and processing equipment as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Train in operating Coil Processing and Cut-to-Length equipment.
  • Train in CNC Machining Center operation.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Volunteer to assist with maintenance tasks as needed.

Qualifications: Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes.

Working Conditions:

The employee will frequently need to:

  • Sit, stand, walk, and alternate positions for up to 8 hours.
  • Use both hands for handling and feeling textures.
  • Lifting or moving up to 35 lbs.

Occasionally, the employee will need to:

  • Balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or climb.
  • Bend, twist, reach above/below shoulder level.
  • Push, pull, lift, or carry items under 50 lbs.

The role requires vision at various ranges, peripheral vision, and depth perception, as well as talking and hearing capabilities in person, via radio, or in groups.

The employee will use tools and machines such as:

  • Desktop computers
  • Hand tools
  • Overhead cranes
  • Oxy-fuel hand torch

Work conditions include operating around moving equipment, wearing PPE, and working near trucks and mobile industrial equipment. The position is full-time, non-exempt, and eligible for overtime.
