Responsibilities include operating and setting up conventional or numerical control (NC) machines to fabricate parts, reading blueprints, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met. Candidates should be familiar with shop math, machinability of materials, and blueprint interpretation.
Essential Duties / Skills / Responsibilities
- Read blueprints and determine measurements to the 16th
- Operate overhead cranes and machines safely
- Calculate weight of cut parts and raw materials for safe handling
- Perform daily operational checks and cleanup
- Make minor program adjustments and download programs via disc, flash drive, or direct connect
- Perform cuts and nesting as per production needs
- Complete production and quality control sheets accurately
- Record progress in job books
- Ensure safety compliance and proper training of all workers
- Troubleshoot plasma machines at operator level
Additional Requirements for Plasma Operator I
- Confirm dimensions and locate materials according to engineering logistics
- Program machines to engineering specifications
- Lead and manage work-cell operations, demonstrating leadership skills
- Possess extensive knowledge of plasma operation and operator's manual
- Recommend process modifications for productivity and quality improvements
Work Conditions
- Heavy industrial environment with outdoor exposure
- Exposure to air particles, chemicals, loud noises
- Use of personal protective equipment at all times
Education / Knowledge Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Proficiency in English reading, writing, and comprehension
- Blueprint reading and problem-solving skills
- Intermediate math skills
- Experience in heavy industrial or construction environments is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of construction/heavy equipment is a plus
