We are currently looking for a CNC Optical Generator Operator to join our team onsite in our Orlando, FL office. We offer a 9/80 work schedule and foster a professional, high-energy culture where employees are empowered to succeed.

The CNC Optical Generator Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating precision CNC optical generation equipment to grind, polish, and edge glass or plastic lens blanks to strict optical specifications. This role ensures lenses conform to required tolerances through accurate measurement, inspection, and documentation while supporting LightPath Technologies’ commitment to quality, precision, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Program CNC controllers by entering toolpaths, codes, and parameters for speed, feed rate, and cutting depth.
• Set up, calibrate, and operate CNC optical generators to grind lens curves according to engineering drawings and design specifications.
• Inspect completed lenses using precision measuring instruments such as interferometers, lens meters, and spherometers to verify conformance to optical tolerances.
• Interpret blueprints, optical schematics, and work instructions to ensure accurate production.
• Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and basic upkeep of CNC machinery to maintain performance and precision.
• Troubleshoot machine errors, tooling issues, and process deviations during production.
• Maintain accurate production and quality documentation, including logs and inspection records, for each shift.
• Follow all LightPath safety policies, quality procedures, and manufacturing standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform other duties as assigned by management.

Key Skills and Competencies

• Technical Proficiency: CNC optical generators, grinding and polishing operations, optical shop machinery.
• Software & Tools: CAD and CAM systems, optical schematics, interferometry equipment, precision measurement tools.
• Troubleshooting: Strong mechanical and analytical skills for resolving machine and tooling issues.
• Quality Focused: Detail oriented with demonstrated expertise in tolerance verification and inspection.

Qualifications Required

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience operating CNC machinery in a manufacturing or optical environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, optical schematics, and technical documentation.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to work to tight tolerances.
• Mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in optical manufacturing or precision grinding environments.
• Hands on experience with Zygo interferometry.
• Familiarity with CAD/CAM software used for CNC programming.
• Experience using precision measurement tools including micrometers and gauges.
