Job summary

Kennametal Inc. is hiring a CNC Operator for the Bedford, PA area. The role requires setting up and operating CNC machines, selecting cutters, and maintaining ISO quality standards.

You will handle multiple machines, input programs, and optimize processes to meet production goals. The position emphasizes safety, accuracy, and efficiency, with responsibilities spanning setup, operation, quality checks, and lean/ TPM activities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of basic math, blueprint reading and gauge-reading training.
  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions and communicate with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Minimum of three years of turning, milling and/or Bar & Chucking Machine Operator experience.
  • Forklift operator’s license.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of computer applications and software.
  • Certification as a Journeyman in the metal trades industry, or current enrollment in an Apprentice Machinist Program is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and perform a series of machining operations on all CNC machines.
  • Select proper cutters, determine and adjust feeds and speeds as needed, and replace cutters when dull.
  • Make machine set-ups when standard procedures are not established.
  • Operate two or more CNC machines simultaneously.
  • Select and install CNC programs and make minor adjustments to meet product specifications as needed.
  • Suggest and submit major CNC program changes and efficiency improvements to supervisor/technician/engineer.
  • Inspect parts to meet established ISO requirements.
  • Process shop orders to meet established due dates.
  • Responsible for tracking and problem solving of the materials used and efficient equipment use to reduce cost.
  • Responsible for management of WIP and components. Monitor supplies per established Kanban system.
  • Participate in lean events and utilize lean processes in daily duties
  • Perform daily required TPM on fork lift and associated equipment
  • Perform daily required 5S activities for fork lift and work area
  • Perform daily activities associated with gathering and posting established metrics
  • Accurate and timely recording of required data (Production, Quality, etc)
  • Use additional pages as necessary to fully describe the position accountabilities

Shift: 2nd, 3PM - 11PM, Monday - Friday
Key Job Responsibilities:
Safety:

Perform pre-operation checks for both individual machines and work area.

Perform safety inspections required for individual machines and associated equipment.

  • Set-up and perform a series of machining operations on all CNC machines.
  • Select proper cutters, determine and adjust feeds and speeds as needed, and
