Job summary

Viking Group is seeking a detail-oriented CNC Operator to join our manufacturing team. This role sets up, operates, and optimizes CNC machines to produce precision components that meet stringent quality and production standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience reading blueprints, process sheets, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, CMM, and other electronic inspection equipment.
  • Troubleshooting machining issues and implementing corrective actions.

  • Ability to collaborate with supervisors, programmers, and engineers.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manufacturing environment focused on quality and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, process sheets, engineering drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements, specifications, and setup procedures.
  • Set up and operate CNC machines and other machine tools within an assigned work cell.
  • Mount, align, and secure tooling, fixtures, attachments, and workpieces.
  • Install preset tooling into tool posts, turrets, indexing heads, and automatic tool changers.
  • Load CNC programs and retrieve machining instructions from the machine controller or database.
  • Monitor machine operation and control displays to ensure proper performance and detect malfunctions.
  • Adjust machine controls, feeds, speeds, and offsets to maintain dimensional accuracy and optimize machining performance.
  • Inspect first-piece and in-process parts using precision measuring equipment including: Micrometers, Calipers, Indicators, Verniers, Gauges, CMM.
  • Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) studies and assist with machine capability studies.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality standards.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, programmers, and engineers to resolve machining or programming concerns.
  • Assist with CNC programming, prove-out of new programs, and optimization of existing machining programs.
  • Prepare materials and organize upcoming jobs during machine cycle time to reduce setup and changeover time.
  • Perform assembly, testing, and other work cell operations as needed.
  • Train and support machine attendants and less experienced operators.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain tooling in proper working condition.
  • Keep machines, tooling, and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Meet or exceed production schedules while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that increase efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
