Job summary

Contract Industrial Tooling (C-I-T) in Richmond, IN seeks a CNC Operator to set up and operate CNC machines and uphold quality and safety standards. You will document production and maintain tools and equipment, ensuring parts meet specifications.

Responsibilities include planning machining operations, programming mills and lathes, setting up tooling, measuring with micrometers and calipers, and performing preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience in machine shop.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to coworkers.
  • Ability to manage several projects at one time.
  • Able to work independently on a project through its completion with minimum supervision.
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication processes, machining and tooling background and previous manufacturing background/environment.
  • Impeccable attention to detail and ability to work within short time lines with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Plan machining operations by reviewing work orders, blue prints, engineering plans and drawings.
  • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving parts programs.
  • Set up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position; maintain specifications by observing, drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning and facing operations, take measurements, detect malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming controls, sharpening and replacing work tools and quality assurance.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers, and fixtures and gauges to check work and perform detailed inspection of parts produced.

Working Conditions / Environment

This job operates in a manufacturing environment.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to loud noise, fumes and airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration;

Employee is exposed to moderate temperature changes over an eight-hour shift.
