Job summary

Altec Manufacturing Inc. in Diboll, Texas, is seeking a CNC Operator to program, set up, and operate CNC machines to manufacture precision components for custom automation systems. You will work from engineering drawings, CAD/CAM files, and production docs to ensure accuracy and high quality.

You will collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and quality teams, perform inspections with calipers and micrometers, and uphold safety and housekeeping standards while supporting production schedules.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical training in machining or CNC programming is an asset.
  • Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC machinery.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and machining specifications.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software and basic CNC programming principles.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC milling, drilling, boring, grinding, and other operations.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specs, and work instructions.
  • Translate engineering requirements into machine programs and sequences.
  • Load materials, fixtures, and tooling; ensure proper setup.
  • Perform test runs and adjust programs or tooling to meet tolerances and finishes.
  • Operate CNC equipment safely and monitor performance during production.
  • Inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions.
  • Maintain traceability and complete production documentation.

Job Summary:

The CNC Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC machining equipment to manufacture precision components used in custom industrial automation systems and machinery. Working from engineering drawings, CAD/CAM files, and production documentation, this role ensures components are produced accurately, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Success in this position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and machining requirements. Working collaboratively with engineering, fabrication, and quality teams, the CNC Operator plays a critical role in delivering precision-machined components that support the successful completion of complex, custom-built projects.

Responsibilities:
CNC Programming & Machining
  • Set up, program, and operate CNC machining equipment to perform milling, drilling, boring, grinding, and other machining operations.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Translate engineering requirements into machine programs and operational sequences.
  • Load raw materials, fixtures, and tooling while ensuring proper machine setup.
  • Perform test runs and make program or tooling adjustments to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes.
  • Operate CNC equipment safely and efficiently while monitoring machining performance throughout production.
Quality & Production
  • Inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy and compliance with specifications.
  • Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain product quality and maximize efficiency.
  • Work closely with engineering, fabrication, and quality teams to resolve machining challenges.
  • Complete production documentation accurately and maintain traceability where required.
  • Contribute to meeting production schedules while maintaining Altec's quality standards.
Equipment Maintenance & Safety
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and daily inspections to ensure equipment remains in safe working condition.
  • Report equipment issues, tooling concerns, or quality defects promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in continuous improvement and workplace safety initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical training in machining, manufacturing technology, or CNC programming is considered an asset.
  • Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC machinery.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and machining specifications.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and mathematical skills.

Working Conditions
  • Full-time position based at Altec Manufacturing Inc. in Diboll, Texas.
  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, moving equipment, noise, and metalworking operations.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and repetitive movements throughout the shift.
  • Regular lifting of materials and tooling up to 50 pounds.
  • Extended periods operating CNC equipment and using precision measuring instruments.
  • Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
