Position Summary
Produces machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans machine by studying work orders, blueprints, plans, materials, specifications, and machine parameters.
- Configure mills and lathes by entering instructions, setting tool registers, calculating requirements, including basic math.
- Load machine with workpieces.
- Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces.
- Maintain specifications by observing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures.
- Achieve organizational goals by accepting ownership for new and different requests.
- Meet production goals in terms of cycle time, quantity, and quality.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience with Kinetic CNC preferred.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of properties of metals and other materials.
- Knowledge of basic shop mathematics.
- Experience in heavy structural fabrication.
- Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
- Proficient in operating welding equipment.
Safety Requirements
- Adhere to all safety rules, policies, and procedures of Southland Steel Fabricators, Inc.
- Maintain an orderly and clean work area.
- Attend all required safety meetings.
- Inspect equipment daily to ensure safety standards are met.
- Inspect tools daily before use, including extension cords.
- Use hand and power tools safely with correct guards in place.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as fire-resistant clothing, gloves, respirators when needed, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Occasionally lift or carry tools, equipment, or materials up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional bending, squatting, or crouching.
- Handle tools and materials frequently.
- Work in various weather conditions including cold, heat, and humidity.
