Job summary

Bramley Aerospace is seeking an experienced CNC Operative to join its precision machine shop in Martock, Somerset. This hands-on role requires setting, operating (and where needed programming) CNC milling or turning machines to produce aerospace components to tight tolerances.

You will work to AS9100 quality standards, read engineering drawings and GD&T, perform in-process inspection, and contribute to process improvements within a small, experienced team.

Qualifications

• Experience setting and operating CNC milling and/or turning (3-axis and above).
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T notation.
• Experience in aerospace, defence, or similarly regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
• Familiarity with in-process inspection and quality documentation.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC milling and/or turning machines to produce components from engineering drawings.
• Work to tight tolerances and aerospace quality standards (AS9100 environment).
• Carry out in-process inspection using standard metrology equipment (verniers, micrometers, CMM as appropriate).
• Maintain accurate job card reporting and document tooling wear or machine faults.
• Contribute to 5S housekeeping and prevent FOD; liaise with Works Manager for first-off approvals.

Bramley Aerospace is looking for an experienced CNC Operative to join its precision machine shop in Martock, Somerset. This is a hands-on role for someone who can set and operate CNC milling or turning machines to produce high-quality aerospace components to tight tolerances.

KEY POINTS

• Reporting to: Works Manager
• Location: Martock, Somerset (on-site, full-time)
• Commute: Within sensible commuting distance
• Contract: Permanent, full-time
• Hours: Monday to Friday, standard day shift (overtime as required)
• Experience needed: CNC machining experience and ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T notation.
• Ideal candidate: A practical, detail-focused CNC Operative who can work accurately to drawings, maintain high standards and support a busy production team

THE ROLE

BPA operates a CNC machine shop producing high-precision aerospace components to tight tolerances and strict quality standards. We supply Leonardo Helicopters and GKN Aerospace — customers whose requirements leave no room for error.

We are looking for a skilled, experienced CNC operative who can set, operate, and if required programme CNC milling or turning machines to the standards our customers demand. Quality, consistency, and attention to detail are non-negotiable.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC milling and/or turning machines (3-axis and above) to produce components from engineering drawings.
• Work to tight tolerances and aerospace quality standards (AS9100 environment).
• Carry out in-process inspection using standard metrology equipment (verniers, micrometers, CMM as appropriate).
• Maintain accurate job card reporting.
• Identify and report tooling wear, machine faults, and non-conformances promptly.
• Contribute to 5S housekeeping and FOD (Foreign Object Damage) prevention.
• Liaise with Works Manager and Quality on first-off approvals and concession requests.
• Support programming and process improvement activities where capability exists.

What We Need From You

• Demonstrable experience setting and operating CNC milling or turning centres (Fanuc, Heidenhain, or equivalent).
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T notation.
• Experience working in an aerospace, defence, or similarly regulated manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with in-process inspection and quality documentation.
• Exposure to CAM programming (Mastercam, Edgecam or similar) is advantageous.
• Reliable, time-served, and methodical. Shortcuts in aerospace get people hurt.
• Based within 30 minutes of Martock Trading Estate.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

You will be working in a busy machine shop producing low-volume, high-precision components. The environment is professional, the standards are high, and the team is small. If you are used to high-volume repetitive production, this will be a step up in technical complexity.
