Job description

Job Overview

We are looking for a CNC Machinist III to join our team in Aiken, SC. The role involves operating a variety of machine tools, including multi‑axis CNC milling machines, and working from process sheets, engineering drawings, and specifications. The position requires working 2nd shift on weekdays (Monday to Thursday, 3:15 PM – 1:45 AM) and weekends (Friday to Sunday, 5:00 AM – 5:30 PM).

Responsibilities
  • Work from process sheets, engineering drawings/specifications, sketches, and written/oral instructions to machine end‑product items, meeting extremely close tolerances and inspecting work with precision measuring instruments.
  • Complete manufacturing/quality control reports and tag discrepant parts.
  • Perform tasks requiring advanced shop mathematics, GD&T, and feeds & speed calculations.
  • Suggest and collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to develop alternate methods and procedures that enhance efficiency and economic manufacturing.
  • Execute untried tasks, first‑run complex machining, method process prove‑out, and other assignments that may require consultation with Engineering.
  • Set up and align workpieces to extremely close tolerances, especially on high‑complexity parts such as gun barrels.
  • Clean/deburr parts using machine tools, power tools, or hand tools as conditions permit.
  • Return tooling, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to proper storage areas.
  • Perform routine operator maintenance functions, including chip removal, machine cleaning, and table upkeep.
  • Load/unload parts or equipment using special handling equipment.
  • Maintain/improve housekeeping standards and adhere to safety rules and practices.
  • Train other machinists as required.
  • Work under minimal supervision from a Team Leader, seeking consultation when needed.
  • Use the shop’s computerized time and attendance system to clock in/out, close shop orders, and complete other related responsibilities.
  • Be willing to transfer to different machining centers or areas as needed.
Physical Demands

The job requires standing for long periods, stooping, bending, reaching, and climbing. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 10 lb; occasionally lifts objects weighing up to 40 lb. Lifting and moving equipment such as cranes and hand trucks are available for heavier loads.

Required Education, Experience & Skills
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating Fanuc, Siemens, KT, and G&L controls and programming CNC using G‑code and M‑code.
  • Strong knowledge of machining techniques and precision layout.
Preferred Education, Experience & Skills
  • Ability to read, interpret, and program to mitigate production delays and risks.
  • Experience with GD&T application.
  • Knowledge of precision layout and measuring instruments.
  • Ability to apply algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric functions to blueprint dimensions.
  • Skill to read and interpret multi‑page complex machining blueprints.
  • Experience setting up and operating major machine tools.
  • Self‑motivation, confidence, and judgment to work independently.
  • Ability to assist others in resolving quality issues and in complex set‑ups.
Pay Information

Full‑time salary range: $52,108 – $83,373. Pay is determined by a variety of factors including local market, business considerations, and individual qualifications.
