Job summary

Applied Aerospace & Defense in Enfield is seeking a CNC Milling Machinist for the 2nd shift to machine aerospace components to tight tolerances. You will read specs, set up tooling, and operate Fanuc-controlled milling centers.

You will follow written instructions, inspect parts with precision tools, and maintain equipment. 7–10 years of CNC milling experience and an HS diploma or GED are required; role is full-time, on-site in Enfield.

Responsibilities

  • Read and follow work instructions, fixture alignment, tooling data, and part loading.
  • Set up and operate CNC milling centers per engineering specs and GD&T.
  • Select tools and fixtures and adjust offsets to ensure part quality.
  • Read blueprints and verify tolerances using precision measuring devices.
  • Operate more than one machine as required, and maintain safe, clean work area.
  • Perform routine maintenance and report malfunctions.

Description

To machine precision aerospace components according to customer specifications while adhering to specific quality, production, and scheduling requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Able to read and understand work instructions such as, fixture alignment, tooling info and part loading instructions.
  • Set-up and operate CNC multi-axis milling machining centers with Fanuc computer controls according to engineering specifications, instructions, and operation sheets (GD&T).
  • Be able to pick up worksheets as well as trimming tools to run true.
  • Understand cutter compensation and can make the correct offset adjustment to ensure a quality part.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures and tool holders for a given job.
  • Run similar jobs of short cycle times for extended periods of time where manufacturing processes are stable and do not require frequent change.
  • Read and interpret engineering instructions, travelers, and blueprints and be familiar with geometric tolerances and principles.
  • Operate more than one machine at a time, one to two machines depending on the nature of the job and its complexity, occasionally operating more than two machines depending on operator skill and familiarity with a given job.
  • Must perform routine maintenance on assigned production equipment, i.e., maintain cleanliness of work area and machinery, check machinery fluids and alert maintenance personnel and/or supervisor of malfunctions.
  • Operate lifting and handling equipment such as hand truck, pallet jack, or overhead hoist to maneuver in-process or finished components to desired location.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledgeable of in-process inspection techniques, standards, and requirements. Able to use and interpret precision measuring devices such as micrometers, verniers, and various hand tools, i.e., gauges to verify the accuracy of dimensional characteristics of components.
  • Knowledge of metal characteristics in a manufacturing setting is desirable.
  • Knowledge of programming codes is helpful.
  • Machinists must have good verbal and written communication skills; good math skills and good interpersonal skills. Must work well with colleagues, supervision and management.
Working Conditions

Light industrial work setting. Job involves lifting up to 50lbs. in a manufacturing environment that may occasionally require the employee to work in a number of awkward positions.

  • Fully capable of reading, understanding, and following written and oral work instructions in English.
  • Ability to lift or transfer components or objects of no more than 50 pounds.
