Job summary

Applied Aerospace & Defense in Boylston is seeking a CNC Lathe Machinist to produce aerospace components according to customer specifications. The role requires reading instructions, setting up multi-axis lathes, and following GD&T standards. You will interpret drawings, edit G-code, and maintain tooling and machines while ensuring safety and quality.

The position is full-time on a second shift (3 PM - 12:30 AM), with a sign-on bonus of $2,500. Strong math and communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand work instructions, fixture alignment, tooling information and loading instructions.
  • Set up and operate CNC lathe or multi-axis lathes according to specs and charts.
  • Apply GD&T and operation sheets; basic editing of G code.
  • Select cutting tools, fixtures, and tool holders for each job.
  • Maintain tool offsets and tram tools to ensure accuracy.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleanliness of work areas and machines.
  • Operate lifting equipment to move components as needed.
  • Read engineering docs and blueprints; interpret tolerances.
  • Maintain prints and report malfunctions to supervision.

Description

$2500 SIGN-ON BONUS

CNC Machinist will machine precision aerospace components according to customer specifications while adhering to specific quality, production, and scheduling requirements. Positionavailable on2nd (3PM - 12:30AM) shift.

  • Able to read and understand work instructions such as, fixture alignment, tooling info and part loading instructions.
  • Set-up and operate CNC lathe or multi-axis lathes according to engineering specifications, instructions,
  • GD&T, and operation sheets. Knowledge of manual machines is a plus.
  • Be able to pick up work offsets and tram tools to run true.
  • Understand cutter compensation and can make the correct offset adjustment to ensure a quality part.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures and tool holders for a given job.
  • Perform basic edits to G code to ensure product conformity.
  • Read and interpret engineering instructions, travelers, and blueprints and be familiar with geometric tolerances and principles.
  • Must perform routine maintenance on assigned production equipment, i.e., maintain cleanliness of work area and machinery, check machinery fluids and alert maintenance personnel and/or supervisor of malfunctions.
  • Operate lifting and handling equipment such as hand truck, pallet jack, or overhead hoist to maneuver in-process or finished components to desired location.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledgeable of in-process inspection techniques, standards, and requirements. Able to use and interpret precision measuring devices such as micrometers, verniers, and various hand tools, i.e., gauges to verify the accuracy of dimensional characteristics of components.
  • Knowledge of metal characteristics in a production setting is desirable.
  • Knowledge of programming codes is helpful.
  • Machinists must have good verbal and written communication skills; good math skills and good interpersonal skills.
  • Must work well with colleagues, supervision and management.
  • Ability to work and problem solve independently.
Education & Experience Required:
  • 3-5 years CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably aerospace.
  • Fully capable of reading, understanding, and following written and oral work instructions in English.
  • Ability to lift or transfer components or objects of no more than 50 pounds.
  • Basic math skills.
