Job summary

Avalign Technologies in Greenwood, IN, is seeking a CNC Mill Operator for the 2nd shift. You will operate 3-axis or 4-axis Haas Mills to perform milling, drilling, and boring of metallic and nonmetallic pieces, ensuring parts meet blueprint specifications.

Ideal candidates will read blueprints, set up fixtures, calculate machine controls, and conduct prove-outs. The role includes training new employees, maintaining safety, and contributing to a high-quality production environment.

Qualifications

• Reads blueprints, plans, sketches to determine tooling, setup and sequences.
• Prepares tools and verifies fixture setup meets quality standards for milling and boring sizes.
• Mounts, aligns, secures tooling and workpieces on the machine.
• Loads control media or enters commands to retrieve instructions from database.
• Calculates and sets machine controls for spindle position, depth, speed and coolant.
• Conduits prove-outs and manual programming during setups, with supervisor approval.
• Starts machine, monitors displays and operation to detect malfunctions.
• Stops machine to change tools and setup per sequence and measure parts.
• Enters commands or adjusts controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
• Operates machine manually for non-automated functions or when programming fails.
• Discusses control media errors with supervisor to resolve issues.
• Cleans machine, tooling and parts; performs routine maintenance.
• Follows safety policies; wears PPE.
• Helps train new employees as required.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a CNC Mill Operator to join our Greenwood, IN facility on a 2nd shift schedule. You will operate 3-axis or 4-axis Haas Mills to perform various machine functions, such as cutting, drilling, milling, reaming, boring, and broaching of metallic and nonmetallic work pieces.

What You’ll Do:

• Reads and interprets blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences
• Prepares tools needed for machining operations; Verifies that fixture setup meets acceptable quality standards regarding milling and boring sizes, depths, angles, or other specifications
• Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments, and work-piece on machine; Assembles cutting tools in tool holders and positions tool holders in machine magazines
• Loads control media, such as tape, card, or disk, in machine controller or enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from database
• Calculates and sets machine controls to position spindle in relationship to work piece and to regulate factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow
• Conducts prove-outs and manual programming during setups; only when approved by Supervisor
• Starts machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions
• Stops machine to change cutting tools and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications
• Enters commands or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining
• Operates machine manually to perform non-automated functions and when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions
• Discusses control media errors with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems
• Cleans machine, tooling, and parts; Performs machine maintenance as needed or required
• Adheres to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations; Wears personal protective equipment in accordance with safety and training guidelines
• Helps train new employees as required

What You’ll Need:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 1 year of related experience and/or training
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
• Mathematical skills to manage units of measure, fractions, decimals, whole numbers
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and operations sheets to determine set-up and operations to be formed
• Ability to set-up and operate CNC machinery, input and maintain data in Traverse Manufacturing System
