Job summary

McLanahan Corporation seeks a CNC/Manual Machine Operator to set up and operate CNC and manual mills and lathes from blueprints and drawings. You will verify dimensions with precision tools and maintain strict tolerances in a safety-focused environment.

You will read blueprints, perform daily machine maintenance, and work with a team to meet production goals. Experience with Mastercam is a plus and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Two years machining experience in a production environment.
  • Experience reading blueprints and drawings.
  • Experience with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).
  • Experience rigging and positioning heavy equipment with jib cranes/overhead cranes.
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or ISO environment experience.
  • Mastercam experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and edit CNC and manual mills and lathes from blueprints/drawings.
  • Operate machinery and ensure proper setup for each operation.
  • Maintain tolerances using precision measuring tools.
  • Read, interpret and follow SOPs for consistent processes.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas following 5S principles.
  • Collaborate with team to meet department goals.
  • Suggest process and environment improvements.
  • Work shifts and overtime as needed.

Job description

As a CNC/Manual Machine Operator, you'll play a key role in manufacturing quality parts by setting up, programming, and operating CNC and manual mills and lathes. You'll work from blueprints and engineering drawings, use precision measuring equipment to verify specifications, and help ensure products are produced safely, accurately, and efficiently.

We're looking for someone who enjoys hands-on machining work, takes pride in precision, and works well in a team-focused manufacturing environment.

What You'll Do
Set Up & Operate Machinery
  • Follow direction provided by the Supervisor or designee.
  • Set up and edit CNC machine programs, milling machines, and lathes.
  • Utilize the proper equipment to ensure machines are correctly set up for each operation.
  • Understand and utilize programming software for applicable CNC machines.
  • Perform daily maintenance of CNC and manual machinery.
  • Perform daily cleaning of machines, equipment, and work areas.
Produce Quality Parts
  • Read and understand blueprints and drawings to manufacture parts to specification.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges to maintain required tolerances.
  • Read, interpret, and follow standard operating procedures to ensure a consistent manufacturing process.
  • Verify that finished products meet design and quality requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area using 5S principles.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet departmental goals.
  • Demonstrate strong work ethic and a willingness to suggest improvements to processes and the work environment.
  • Be available to work assigned shifts and overtime as needed.

What You'll Bring
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of training and experience approved by the hiring supervisor, manager, and Human Resources.
  • Two (2) years of machining experience in a production environment.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
  • Experience reading and understanding blueprints.
  • Experience rigging and positioning heavy equipment using jib hoists and overhead cranes.
  • Previous experience working in a Lean Manufacturing and/or ISO environment.
  • Experience with Mastercam is preferred.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to select and/or grind specialty tools for specific machining applications.
  • Knowledge of the working properties of various metals and alloys, including appropriate cutting feeds and speeds.
  • Knowledge of shop mathematics, charts, and tables.
  • Ability to use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment while meeting company goals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements

This position is based in a manufacturing environment and requires sitting and standing for extended periods. The role requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, lift, carry, move, and maneuver materials as assigned. Employees must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and may be required to travel domestically.
