Job summary

A&B Machine & Design is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist / Set-Up to prepare and prove out mill jobs, read blueprints, and adjust programs to print. You’ll work with leadership to move jobs into production, inspect parts with precision tools, and maintain quality and safety standards in a hands-on shop environment.

Ideal candidates have 5–7 years of CNC set-up/programming on 3- to 4-axis machines, strong GD&T skills, and the ability to multitask.

Qualifications

• Five to seven years of CNC set-up/Programming experience on 3- or 4-axis machines.
• Ability to read blueprints and GD&T, shop math, and measurement techniques.
• Careful problem-solving, reliable communication, and multitasking ability.
• Lathe set-up or operation, 5-axis/HMC experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and CAD models; interpret work instructions and tolerances.
• Set up CNC vertical mills on existing programs; write new programs as needed.
• Prove-out new/existing programs and move jobs into production.
• Inspect first pieces and in-process parts with micrometers, calipers, CMM, etc.
• Monitor and troubleshoot machining to protect quality and productivity.
• Follow safety/quality procedures and support teamwork.

Job description

Build precision parts with a hands-on team. A&B Machine & Design is a family-owned precision machining company serving manufacturers across a range of industries. We are looking for an experienced CNC Machinist / Set-Up professional who can prepare and prove out mill jobs, solve machining challenges, and help deliver accurate parts on schedule.

What you’ll do

• Read and interpret blueprints, CAD models, work instructions, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Set up CNC vertical mills on existing programs and write new programs as needed ; make offsets and process adjustments to bring parts to print.
• Work with operations leadership and machinists to prove-out new and existing programs and move jobs into production efficiently.
• Inspect first pieces and in-process parts using micrometers, calipers, gage pins, bore gages, CMM equipment, and other appropriate tools.
• Monitor machining, troubleshoot issues, and make sound adjustments to protect quality and productivity.
• Follow shop safety and quality procedures, communicate job status, and support teamwork and continuous improvement.
• Operate machines as production needs require, work overtime when needed, including occasional weekends or holidays.

What you’ll bring

• Five to seven years of CNC set-up/Programming experience on 3- or 4-axis machines, or an associate degree / trade-school CNC machining certificate with relevant experience.
• Strong vertical mill set-up /programming knowledge and the ability to read prints and apply GD&T, shop math, and measurement techniques.
• Careful problem-solving, attention to detail, reliable communication, and the ability to manage more than one task.
• Lathe set-up or operation, 5-axis/HMC experience, and CAD/CAM familiarity (Edgecam or similar) are a plus.

Schedule: Full-time, 8-hour days; overtime as needed.

Pay: Based on experience.
