Job description

CNC Machinist - Universal Grinder (ID/OD) and Lathe

POSITION SUMMARY
The ID/OD Universal Grinder, under the direction of the Machining Manager, will program, set-up, adjust and operate an ID/OD Kellenberger grinder to grind close tolerance, precision machinery parts using engineering and machining documentation. This position requires a combination of technical capability, creativity and troubleshooting abilities and a strong attention to detail and accuracy. This position will also run a CNC Lathe as a main assignment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•Generate cost effective and simple-to-manufacture concepts to solve identified design issues
•Starting with mechanical assemblies or concepts, create engineered, fully detailed, functioning fluid power and mechanical
•Plan sequence of steps to achieve precise product dimensions using engineering documentation
•Program and set up grinder for OD, ID, thread, profile, and cam grinding operations
•Operate grinder and make adjustments as needed
•Setup and operate CNC Lathe
•Conduct final inspection on parts using indicators, micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring equipment
•Conversational programming of Fanuc CNC controls with Kellenberger interface (preferred, but will train)
•Maintain equipment and machines/perform PM
•All other duties as assigned

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS •Associates Degree in CNC Machining, Tool & Die or other related study (or equivalent experience)
•3+ years’ experience programming, set-up and operation of CNC ID/OD grinders, proficiency with CNC Lathe
•Demonstrated high productivity through the use of good planning and technology
•Attention to detail and a desire to maintain high standards of workmanship
•Possesses own quality inspection and hand tools
•Innovative and forward-thinking with a continuous improvement mindset
•Applicant should be mechanically inclined, have good problem-solving skills, be able to work independently, be self motivated and possess the ability to do highly accurate work that requires concentration and physical effort
•Flexibility - willingness to operate other equipment, perform work outside job duties when asked, and work overtime hours when required

PHYSICAL REEQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS
•Regularly lifts up to 25 pounds unassisted. Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds unassisted. Occasional use of overhead cranes for lifts greater than 50 pounds
•Regularly stands for 8 hours
•Regularly bends, stoops, reaches, climbs, and moves
•Regularly exerts up to 10 pounds of force frequently exerts up to 25 pounds of force to move objects
•Work environment is bright and temperature controlled
•The nature of the work involves contact with various metals and oils
