Level Two builds upon level one, with minimal assistance. Level two machinists operate 3-5 axis CNC machines, requiring basic machine setup, fixture and cutting tool preparation, loading and adjusting CNC programs and offsets. Competencies include using advanced quality inspection tools such as height and air gauges, and performing part buy-off. Basic knowledge of CNC G and M codes is required. Typically, 2-4 years of experience are needed.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic setup operations, including fixture, cutting tool, and CNC program setup.
  • Maintain product quality by monitoring and adjusting CNC offsets.
  • Conduct inspection tasks of intermediate complexity, interacting with drawings and advanced inspection tools.
  • Validate programs and first part runs on existing products.
  • Use production tracking tools like Avante or E1 to charge time and claim parts.
  • Perform SPC as required.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to load and secure fixtures with minimal assistance.
  • Knowledge of G and M codes for setting and adjusting offsets and interacting with CNC programs.
  • Understanding of shop math, including tool geometry and basic geometry concepts.
  • Ability to read basic prints and apply dimensional specifications during inspection.
  • Experience with DAP training.

Required Experience:

  • At least one year of success in level one machining duties prior to promotion or hire.
  • 2-4 years of experience.

  • GED or High School diploma preferred but not required.
