A leading staffing firm seeks a Lead Technician responsible for providing manufacturing support in a dynamic machine shop environment. This role requires complex machine setups, data evaluation, and effective communication with engineers to ensure project goals are met. Ideal candidates will have a vocational background, CNC experience, and be able to read blueprints proficiently.

The Lead Technician is primarily responsible for laboratory/machine-shop assignments by providing manufacturing support to accomplish the planned activity. Close adherence to project plans and requirements along with a high level of communication with the Project Engineer is necessary. A high level of organization will be applied to maintain project records and compile the data/results for the Project Engineer or others to analyze. The Lead Technician will be under general supervision of an Engineer and responsible for faithfully executing project plans conveyed by Project Engineers or Project Managers. Latitude for independent action exists with effective communication of those actions to those responsible for the project.
Essential Functions
1. Complex setups and operate all machines in the machining facility including, but not limited to, manual and CNC machines and all inspection equipment to permit verification of results.
2. Acquire/evaluate data such as tool wear, cutting forces, and part geometries. Support engineers and other technical staff in report writing and presentation creation for the customers.
3. Create solid models for final and intermediate manufacturing process steps in a 3D CAD system.
4. Program CNC machines using CAM software such as MasterCAM or NX.
5. Design and construct mechanical-fixtures/electrical-apparatus to permit the efficient use of the equipment available or as the project requires.
6. Order supplies/components and interact with sales representatives.
7. Perform inspection duties as necessary and create accurate and compliant records of inspections.
8. Maintain the appearance of the manufacturing operation and engage in efforts to restructure the facility to accommodate tours, promotional activity or project related activity.
Secondary Functions
1. Maintain active awareness of manufacturing technologies and techniques, especially state of the practice information concerning machining.
2. Assist with technology research in support of project activity as necessary.
3. Visit clients at their locations in support of our proposal development or project execution
5. Track hours and report them to permit management of project budgets.
6. Other job-related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. However, mentorship of other Technicians will be expected.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma/GED required. Vocational degree/certification or Associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Five years of experience in a machine shop and experience with machinability testing procedures.
- Ability to swiftly develop familiarity with data acquisition techniques and data acquisition computer programs.
- Experience with machinability testing procedures.
- Experience with cutting tools, conventional and CNC machines, and familiarity of milling, turning, and grinding.
- The ability to read blueprints and manufacture a part from a blueprint to completion.
- Experience with CAM software.
- Familiarity with Fanuc, Siemens and/or Mazak controllers.
- Thorough understanding of GD&T and ability to devise methods to verify compliance of parts with drawing or model requirements.
