Job summary

Prince Industries seeks a CNC Machinist - Set Up Operator for its Lathe Department in Carol Stream, IL. You will operate CNC milling machines to machine metallic and non-metallic parts and report to the Production Manager.

2nd shift: Mon-Fri, 4:30pm-1:00am. A $2,500 sign-on bonus is offered at the Carol Stream location. Prior setup experience is preferred and GD&T reading is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a CNC related field with set up preferred.
• Experience in vertical and horizontal milling machine setup.
• Ability to read and interpret GD&T blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Machine setup, operation, and startup; adjust tooling to maintain sizes.
• Verify conformance of workpieces using micrometers, calipers, and go/no-go gauges.
• Secure tooling and workpieces; set work offsets and part zero.
• Adjust speed and feed per part specifications; perform daily maintenance.
• Load tools and set tool diameters for cutter compensation; install workholding.

JOB SUMMARY

Prince is looking for a CNC Machinist - Set Up Operator to add to our Lathe Department! This position will report to the Production Manager and will operate CNC Milling Machines to machine metallic and non-metallic workpieces by performing a variety of duties.

2nd Shift Hours: M-F, 4:30pm - 1:00am. Must be able to complete training during first shift hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Machine setup, operation, and startup, restarting the machine, adjusts tooling to maintain proper sizes, replaces broken or worn tooling.


• Verify conformance of work piece to specifications, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and go-no-go gauges.


• Secures all tooling and instruments required; Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures.


• Understand how to adjust work offsets and part zero.


• Understand how to adjust the speed and feed of the machine according to different part specifications.


• Observes daily preventative machine maintenance: proper coolant levels, filters, fan operation, cleans machines, etc.


• Responsible for loading tools, setting tool Diameters so that cutter radius compensation may be used.


• Understand how to install Workholding.


• Additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor may include department transfers to meet production needs.

Required Skills/Attributes

• Ability to recognize and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.


• Ability to understand and edit NC Programs.


• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and co-workers as needed.


• Ability to perform intermediate shop math skills and calculations: fraction conversions, divide, multiply, percentages, etc.


• Basic computer skills required to perform inquiry, data collection or input.


• Strong work ethic: Willing to work OT to meet tight deadlines as needed.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED.


• Minimum of 3 years' experience in a CNC related field - set up experience preferred.


• Experience in vertical and horizontal milling machines setup.


• Ability to quickly use the control panel to do offsets and edits on 2-3 of the FMS machinery.


• Tolerance: Ability to machine parts to +/- 0.0005\" for diameter and +/- 0.001\" for length.


• Ability to read and interpret GD&T blueprints to the needed specification in creating a part.

• Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles resulting from metalworking coolants and oils.


• Frequently exposed to and required to move warm/hot parts and machine sparks.


• Frequently exposed to compressed and cryogenic gases.


• The noise level in the work environment is generally loud, requiring hearing protection.


• Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately in noisy environments.


• Must also have close, distance, and peripheral vision, with the ability to adjust focus and judge depth. Color vision is required as well.
