Prince Industries in Illinois is seeking a CNC Machinist - Set Up Operator for the Milling Department. You will operate CNC milling machines to machine metallic and non-metallic workpieces and support various setup duties.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 3+ years in CNC, and the ability to read GD&T blueprints. Shift is 2nd, Mon-Fri 4:30pm–1:00am; strong communication in a noisy shop is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 3 years CNC experience with setup preferred.
• Experience in vertical and horizontal milling machines setup.
• Ability to read and interpret GD&T blueprints for part specifications.
• Tolerance: +/- 0.0005" for diameter and +/- 0.001" for length.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and start CNC milling machines; adjust tooling as needed.
• Verify workpiece conformance using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Secure tooling and workpieces; position in fixtures and machine table.
• Adjust work offsets and part zero; manage speed and feed according to specs.
• Load tools and set tool diameters for cutter radius compensation.
• Install workholding and assist with departmental transfers as needed.

Job Summary

Prince is looking for a CNC Machinist - Set Up Operator to add to our Milling Department! This position will report to the Production Manager and will operate CNC Milling Machines to machine metallic and non-metallic workpieces by performing a variety of duties.

2nd Shift Hours

M-F, 4:30pm - 1:00am. Must be able to complete training during first shift hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Machine setup, operation, and startup, restarting the machine, adjusts tooling to maintain proper sizes, replaces broken or worn tooling
• Verify conformance of work piece to specifications, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and go-no-go gauges
• Secures all tooling and instruments required; Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures
• Understand how to adjust work offsets and part zero
• Understand how to adjust the speed and feed of the machine according to different part specifications.
• Observes daily preventative machine maintenance: proper coolant levels, filters, fan operation, cleans machines, etc
• Responsible for loading tools, setting tool Diameters so that cutter radius compensation may be used
• Understand how to install Workholding
• Additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor may include department transfers to meet production needs

Required Skills/Attributes

• Ability to recognize and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to understand and edit NC Programs
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and co-workers as needed
• Ability to perform intermediate shop math skills and calculations: fraction conversions, divide, multiply, percentages, etc
• Basic computer skills required to perform inquiry, data collection or input
• Strong work ethic: Willing to work OT to meet tight deadlines as needed

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in a CNC related field - set up experience preferred
• Experience in vertical and horizontal milling machines setup.
• Ability to quickly use the control panel to do offsets and edits on 2-3 of the FMS machinery.
• Tolerance: Ability to machine parts to +/- 0.0005" for diameter and +/- 0.001" for length
• Ability to read and interpret GD&T blueprints to the needed specification in creating a part

• Frequently exposed to and required to move warm/hot parts and machine sparks
• Frequently exposed to compressed and cryogenic gases
• The noise level in the work environment is generally loud, requiring hearing protection
• Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately in noisy environments.
• Must also have close, distance, and peripheral vision, with the ability to adjust focus and judge depth. Color vision is required as well.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Compensation

Starting at $28/hr. The final rate will be determined based on experience and a successful interview process. Additional compensation for shift differential.
