Software Placement Group is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to join our 2nd shift team in New Britain, CT. This direct-hire role emphasizes hands-on machining, setup, and mentoring other operators in a fast-paced factory setting.

You will read blueprints, select tooling, set feeds and speeds, and perform first-piece inspections to ensure quality. The position requires independent work and adherence to Lean principles, safety, and 5S practices.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of CNC machine setup experience.
  • Demonstrated CNC lathe setup and operating experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manufacturing instructions.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of machining feeds and speeds.
  • Proficiency with inspection tools, measuring instruments, and gauges.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting department operators.
  • Understanding of Lean Enterprise principles and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC lathe equipment, including Nakamura machines.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Select, change, and set all required tooling.
  • Determine and adjust feeds and speeds.
  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections.
  • Use measuring gauges and inspection equipment.
  • Ensure product quality on assigned machines.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and production issues.
  • Train and mentor operators in the department.
  • Maintain 5S and a clean, safe work area.
  • Conduct line walks in the lathe area as directed.
  • Follow safety policies and report unsafe conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Location: New Britain, CT | Schedule: Full-time, on-site, 2nd Shift

Overview

An established manufacturer is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to join its 2nd shift team in a direct-hire role. This position is central to maintaining production quality and efficiency within the CNC Lathe Department, requiring a hands‑on professional who can work independently, set up complex equipment, and support fellow operators.

What you'll do
  • Set up and operate CNC lathe equipment, including Nakamura machines
  • Work independently from blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions
  • Select, change, and set all required tooling
  • Determine and adjust appropriate feeds and speeds
  • Perform first‑piece and in‑process inspections
  • Properly use and understand measuring and gauging equipment
  • Ensure the quality of all products produced on assigned machines
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and production issues
  • Train and monitor operators within the department
  • Perform required 5S activities and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
  • Conduct line walks in the lathe area as directed by the supervisor
  • Follow all company safety policies and promptly report unsafe conditions or practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor
Required qualifications
