BAE Systems is looking for a CNC Machinist III to join our team in Louisville, KY. As a leader in the defense industry, BAE Systems provides vehicle and weapons systems for the U.S. military. The schedule for this position is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 5pm to 5am.

Sign-on Bonus: $5,000 available for this position.

Must be capable of setting up and operating a wide range of machine tools, including but not limited to: manual lathe, CNC/NC lathe, hollow spindle lathe, deep hole boring machine, broach, vertical and horizontal hone, planer mill, radial drill, chamber grinder, multi-axis machines, ID/OD and surface grinder, centerless grinder, VTL, NC mill, press, lap, jig bore, stencil, deburr, and autofrettage process.

As a CNC Machinist III, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Working from process sheets, engineering drawings, sketches, and instructions to machine various end products, working to close tolerances, inspecting work with precision instruments, and completing manufacturing/quality control reports.
  2. Performing tasks requiring accuracy and application of advanced shop mathematics.
  3. Collaborating with Manufacturing Engineering to develop efficient manufacturing methods.
  4. Performing complex setups and precise alignment of workpieces, especially for high-precision parts like gun barrels.
  5. Using shop mathematics, GD&T, and Feeds & Speed calculations independently.
  6. Cleansing and deburring parts using various tools.
  7. Maintaining and returning equipment, tooling, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
  8. Performing routine maintenance such as lubrication, chip removal, and cleaning.
  9. Handling and loading/unloading parts with appropriate equipment.
  10. Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  11. Training other machinists as needed.
  12. Working under minimal supervision, with guidance from a Team Leader.
  13. Assisting with ancillary tasks in closed areas, such as painting or assembly, if required.
  14. Managing shop floor computerized time and attendance system responsibly.

Physical Demands: The work involves standing for long periods, stooping, bending, reaching, climbing, and handling objects up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally, with equipment available for heavier loads.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • HS or GED with at least 5 years of experience with Fanuc, Siemens, KT, G&L controls, and CNC programming including G-code, M-code, etc., in a union environment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and edit complex programming and blueprints.
  • Experience with DNC software and machining exotic metals like Inconel, Titanium, Monel, etc.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and precision measurement instruments.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations relevant to machining.
  • Ability to set up and operate major machine tools independently.
  • Eligible for security clearance.
