Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Fanuc or Mazak controls and program edits.
  • Solid shop math and precision measurement skills.
  • Willingness to obtain first responder certification if not already.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Train employees in CNC/manual setup and operation.
  • Read blueprints, setup sheets, and work orders for sequences.
  • Select/install tools and fixtures on machines.
  • Load CNC programs, set offsets, adjust feeds and speeds.
  • Perform dry runs and first article inspections with calipers and gauges.
  • Monitor cycles, troubleshoot, and correct out-of-tolerance issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness, lubrication, and safety adherence.
  • Hand off running machines to operators and supervise first runs.
  • Operate CNC equipment as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job description

Job purpose

A CNC Machinist III is responsible for training, setup, and operating as needed, CNC machining and grinding processes. Their duties include training new employees how to safely setup and operate equipment effectively, setup idle equipment so it is already ready, troubleshoot problems machinists have, and run production as needed.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Support all employee training in setup and operation of CNC and manual machine tools, including grinders, as assigned by Team Leader/Supervisor.
  • Machine Preparation: Read and interpret blueprints, setup sheets, and work orders to determine manufacturing sequences and control settings.
  • Tooling & Fixtures: Select, install, align, and secure cutting tools, attachments, and work-holding devices onto machines.
  • Programming & Parameters: Load or select CNC programs, input tool/work offsets, and adjust feed rates and speeds.
  • Testing & Inspection: Perform dry runs or first-article inspections using precision measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Troubleshooting & Adjustments: Monitor initial production cycles, correct out-of-tolerance sequences, and resolve mechanical or processing issues.
  • Maintenance & Safety: Perform routine equipment cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance while adhering to shop safety protocols.
  • Hand off smoothly running machines to operators and monitor initial production runs for safety and quality.
  • Operate CNC equipment as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; technical training, trade schooling, or a machining apprenticeship is strongly preferred3 to 5 years of CNC machining and setup experience, often including multi-axis (4- or 5-axis) machine knowledge.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong ability to read complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and GD&T.
  • Control Familiarity: Proficiency with common machine controls (such as Fanuc or Mazak) to edit programs and troubleshoot errors.
  • Math & Measurement: Solid background in shop math, geometry, and precision measurement tools.
  • Prefer 1st responder training and certification (willing to acquire if not yet certified)
  • Prefer effective use of Microsoft Tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Basic knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of safety, health, and environmental best practices.
  • Strong communication skills (written/verbal) to all levels of the organization, good listener.
  • Have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Pay attention to details and neatness.
  • Have a mechanical aptitude.
  • Enjoy researching technical information.

Working conditions
  • Standard work week is Monday-Friday, 5-8 HR shifts, 6:00 am 2:30 pm, half hour unpaid lunch, possible daily overtime as well as on Saturday, per production requirements. Generally working in production environment.

  • Must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
