Job description

CNC Machinist III

BUSINESS: Leslie Controls, Inc.

LOCATION: Tampa, FL

REPORTING STRUCTURE: Direct report to Manufacturing Supervisor; functional report to Manufacturing Manager

Position Summary

Set up and operate 4 & 5 axis CNC or manual lathes/mills to perform machining operations per engineering drawings, meeting daily production requirements. Provide solutions for tooling and setup challenges. Work in a team-oriented, 6S manufacturing environment committed to safety and quality.

Principal Activities
  1. Review work orders, drawings, fixtures, and tools.
  2. Set up and operate 4 & 5 axis CNC machines, adjusting setup, speeds, feeds, and tool angles for complex profiles.
  3. Operate manual lathes/mills for specific machining tasks.
  4. Use manual tools for deburring and degreasing.
  5. Operate drill presses and punch presses, involving drilling, tapping, reaming, and countersinking.
  6. Use jigs, fixtures, shims, and blocks to align irregular parts.
  7. Check for concentricity and tolerances within +/- 0.001".
  8. Improvise setups and tooling solutions for non-standard work.
  9. Rework quality issues to meet standards.
  10. Train entry-level machinists.
  11. Report problems to the supervisor.
  12. Maintain a clean, organized work area following 6S principles.
  13. Follow safety procedures and policies.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned.
  15. Collaborate with tooling vendors and MEs to optimize tooling.
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • 6-8 years of machining experience.
  • Proficiency in setting up and operating 4 & 5 axis CNC machines.
  • Advanced knowledge of G and M codes.
  • Ability to read complex drawings and blueprints, calculating dimensions and tolerances.
  • Independence in setup and operation.
  • Experience with measuring equipment, including CMM and optical comparators.
  • Data entry and computer skills.
  • Advanced PLC programming and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of manual secondary equipment.
  • Ability to hold tolerances of +/- 0.0001.
  • Understanding of various metals for tooling optimization.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Awareness of EHS standards.
  • Flexibility in shift and overtime work.
Education
  • HS Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Associate's or technical degree preferred.

  • US Citizen required.
