Job summary

Gexpro Services is seeking a CNC Machinist II to operate CNC lathes and mills in Theodore, AL. The role requires reading blueprints, loading tooling, programming, and maintaining tight tolerances on metal parts.

You will work with engineers and managers to meet safety, quality, and schedule requirements, with opportunities for growth in a dynamic manufacturing environment in Alabama.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of CNC Machinist experience in industrial/manufacturing facilities.
• Able to read and interpret work instructions.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• Familiar with safety programs and procedures (LOTO, hazard communication).

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and set up mills and lathes within tolerances.
• Load/unload materials, change tooling, and program CNC machines.
• Monitor operations and adjust programs or run times as needed.
• Use measuring tools to inspect parts against specs.
• Document production logs and ensure safety and quality.

CNC Machinist II Overview

The CNC Machinist II will be responsible for operating CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) Machinery safely and accurately to perform a variety of operations to produce various metal parts from common and exotic metals. The CNC Machinist II assembles, repairs and fabricates parts and components on mills and lathes. The CNC Machinist II would be responsible for loading and unloading metal parts, changing tooling, programming the CNC machine, and adjusting the machine settings for the needed specifications. The CNC Machinist II reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions and tolerance levels of finished product. The CNC Machinist II will ensure safety, quality, and schedule requirements are met daily. The CNC Machinist will report to the Lead CNC Machinist.

CNC Machinist General Responsibilities

• Advanced skills in reading and interpreting work orders and blueprints using metric and standard measurements to machine parts accurately within tight tolerances per customer specs.
• Perform inspection of equipment, materials and products.
• Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines.
• Input the part specifications to program the machines to run parts.
• Monitor the machines while they execute the tasks and makes any necessary adjustments to programs and run times.
• Choose, change, and load the correct cutting tools for the job which include tool length pre-sets and Renishaw probes.
• Learn how to create CAD/CAM files or G&M codes.
• Utilizes precision measuring tools to inspect and measure products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly and meets quality standards.
• Documents actions by completing production logs.
• Checks, cleans, and maintains machinery daily to ensure functionality.
• Capable of setting up mills and lathes by installing fixtures, attachments, and tools necessary to complete jobs according to specifications is a plus.
• Capable of troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming controls, changing inserts and replacing worn tools is a plus.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers and other team members.

Qualifications

• 3- 5 years of experience as a CNC Machinist in an industrial/manufacturing facilities environment.
• Previous experience with lathes, mills, press breaks, plasma machines, small hand tools.
• Working knowledge of conventional, CNC, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient with hand and power tools.
• Able to read and interpret work instructions.
• Fluent in both written and spoken English.
• Familiarity with safety programs and procedures i.e. LOTO, hazard communication, and other company safety policies.
• A “self-motivated” team player.
• Able to work effectively in South Alabama climate conditions.
• Able to stand for long periods of time, crawl, squat, and climb without tiring easily.
• Able to lift 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must pass a background check and drug test.
