Job summary

Toshiba America Energy Systems is seeking a 2nd shift CNC Machinist at our West Allis, WI facility. You will set up and operate CNC lathes and machining centers to manufacture generator and turbine parts, performing tool setting, program prove-outs, and in-process inspection.

The role requires reading blueprints, understanding G-code and M-code, and collaborating with programmers and supervision to resolve machining issues.

Qualifications

• Read blueprints and tolerance notes accurately.
• Must understand G-code and M-code programs.
• Experience operating CNC lathes and machining centers.
• Ability to set up machines and troubleshoot setups/programs.
• Perform in-process inspection using measuring equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform full operation of CNC lathes and machining centers.
• Set up machines including tool setting and alignment checks.
• Review programs for accuracy and error prevention.
• Perform in-process inspection to verify dimensions.
• Collaborate with coworkers and programmers to resolve issues.
• Conduct daily/weekly maintenance as outlined in PM procedures.
• Maintain clean, orderly workstations and support 5-S.
• Operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks.

Position Summary

We are seeking a 2nd shift CNC Machinist to work out of the West Allis, WI facility. The CNC machinist sets up and operates CNC machines or machining centers to manufacture generator and turbine parts, applying knowledge of shop theory and practice, shop math, and machinability of materials. This is a small batch size, high setup environment requiring multiple machine setups and breakdowns in a day. The ideal candidate should have experience in proper methods of machine setup and program prove-outs.

Essential Duties

• Perform full operation of CNC lathes and machining centers.
• Perform setups of machine including tool setting and alignment checks of workpiece.
• Review programs and verify accuracy in order to eliminate potential errors.
• Perform in process inspection of part to verify accuracy of operation.
• Work with coworkers, programmers and management to resolve machining problems.
• Perform daily and weekly maintenance on machines as outlined in preventative maintenance procedures.
• Maintain clean and orderly workstations.
• Be an active team member in 5‑S initiatives.
• Operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks.

Education and Required Experience

• Technical schooling in related field preferred.
• 3‑10 years’ experience in machining required.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Must be experienced in operating CNC machines or machining centers.
• Must understand G‑code and M‑code programs.
• Must be able to set up machines, troubleshoot set‑ups, and troubleshoot programs.
• Must be able to perform inspection of parts by using various types of measuring equipment.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, and risk of shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to heat, cold and wet, humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
