Job description

Reporting to a designated Manager for PCI Manufacturing, the CNC Machinist I is responsible for the basic setting up and operating of a variety of CNC machine tools in a machine tool environment with little to no direct supervision. Critically responsible for inspecting for accuracy and compliance with all requirements to produce precision parts and instruments to customer specifications within a AS9100D quality management system environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs basic set ups to operate a variety of complex CNC and manual machine tools and fixtures; fits and assembles parts to fabricate or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, machine parts, or specifications to determine type and dimensions of metal stock
  • Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose malfunction and determine need for adjustment or repair
  • Measures, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on metal stock surfaces, using such measuring and marking devices as calibrated ruler, micrometer, caliper, or a scribe
  • Under guidance, dismantles machines or equipment using hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.) to examine parts for defect or to remove defective part; substitutes new part or repairs or reproduces part from various kinds of metal stock, using hand tools such as scraper, file, drill and machine tools, such as lathe, milling machine, shaper, borer and grinder
  • Performs daily pre-operational inspections of equipment and documents the results
  • Cleans and deburrs all parts machined/produced while also keeping tools, fixtures and work areas clean and organized
Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Attendance at specialized training or technical school (desired)
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience operating manual and/or CNC machines
  • Possess 1 year of verifiable related employment experience in manufacturing environment
  • Verifiable related employment experience operating equipment, CNC machinery and tools such as lathes, horizontal and vertical mills, waterjets, bar feeders, saws and precision measuring equipment
  • Experience working with blueprints, GD&T, technical manuals, other printed data (preferred), & measuring tools
  • Must possess ability to understand, carry out, and communicate oral and written instructions
  • Working knowledge of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, and inserts used on various machines
  • Experience working with blueprints, technical manuals and other printed data required.
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, & competing demand
  • Able to quickly adjust controls, see details at close range, respond quickly to signals, and quickly move hands with arms to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs
