Rotating Equipment Distribution (RED) is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist/Programmer to support our pump and rotating equipment business in Deer Park, TX. You will program, set up, and operate a SMART NL-3500 lathe with live tooling and Y-axis, taking parts from drawings through first articles.

Experience with pump parts, shafts, and precision tolerances is highly preferred. The role demands independent work, strong problem-solving, and attention to quality in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

• Independently program, set up, and operate CNC lathes beyond simply running existing programs (demonstrated).
• Proficient in CNC programming, including G-code and M-code.
• Ability to read machining drawings and understand close tolerances.
• Strong quality-control skills with micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, calipers, etc.
• Ability to inspect and verify own work.

Responsibilities

• Create, edit, and prove out CNC lathe programs with toolpaths, speeds, feeds, and offsets.
• Set up tooling and workholding; verify clearances and run first-piece trials.
• Use live tooling and Y-axis for milling and drilling operations.
• Manufacture shafts, sleeves, wear rings, bushings, and other rotating components.

Rotating Equipment Distribution (RED) is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist / Programmer to support our growing pump and rotating equipment business.

You will work with our SMART NL-3500 CNC lathe equipped with live tooling and a Y-axis. These capabilities allow turning and secondary milling and drilling operations on the same machine, supporting the manufacture of precision shafts and other pump components.

This position requires someone who can program, set up, and operate the machine independently, taking a job from a drawing or approved dimensions through finished-part inspection. Experience manufacturing pump parts and shafts is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create, edit, and prove out CNC lathe programs, including machining sequences, toolpaths, speeds, feeds, and offsets.
• Set up tooling and workholding, verify clearances, and safely run first-piece trials.
• Use live tooling and Y-axis capabilities for applicable milling and drilling operations.
• Manufacture shafts, sleeves, wear rings, bushings, and other rotating equipment components.
• Read and interpret drawings, tolerances, surface-finish requirements, and job specifications.
• Select cutting tools and machining methods appropriate for the material and part geometry.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and adjust programs or tooling to maintain quality and efficiency.
• Perform incoming, in-process, and final dimensional inspections.
• Verify bearing fits, mechanical seal fits, shaft runout, and other critical dimensions.
• Document inspection results and resolve discrepancies before parts move to assembly or shipment.
• Coordinate with the repair and operations teams on machining requirements and job schedules.
• Maintain organized programs, setup information, tooling, and inspection records.
• Perform routine machine care and maintain a safe, organized work area.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience independently programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes, beyond simply running existing programs.
• Working knowledge of CNC programming, including G-code and M-code.
• Ability to read machining drawings and understand close tolerances.
• Strong quality-control skills using micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, calipers, and other precision measuring equipment.
• Ability to inspect and verify your own work.
• Sound understanding of tooling selection, workholding, speeds, feeds, and machining practices.
• Dependability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and with a team.

Preferred Experience

• Manufacturing or repairing pump parts and shafts.
• Machining close-tolerance bearing and mechanical seal fits.
• Working with stainless steel, alloy steel, bronze, and other pump-component materials.
• CNC live tooling and Y-axis machining.
• CAM software and offline programming.
• Operating a manual lathe or vertical turret lathe (VTL).
• Programming, setting up, or operating a CNC mill.
• Measuring existing or worn components to help establish approved replacement-part dimensions.

Experience with SMART machine tools is a plus. Manual lathe, VTL, and CNC mill experience are valued bonuses.
