SUMMARY:

Sets up computerized numerically controlled machine tools and related equipment for machining operations. Participates in problem-solving activities and contributes to quality improvements. Operates machines when required. Takes initiative to stimulate team-based quality and productivity improvement activities, supporting continuous improvement. Actively promotes teamwork and supports team development.

DESCRIPTION:

  • Works from drawings, blueprints, job layouts, or other specifications, determines feeds, speeds, tooling, and operational sequences.
  • Sets up and inspects first article parts on proven programs and turns them in for Quality Assurance verification at an 80% approval rate.
  • Changes cutting tools and workpiece locations during machining processes.
  • Installs cutting tools and work-holding devices suitable for the size of stock to be machined.
  • Operates and adjusts machines until parts conform with specifications and time standards.
  • Makes necessary adjustments during operations to maintain accurate production.
  • Responsible for secondary setups.
  • Detects and reports improper operation, faulty equipment, and unusual conditions.
  • Detects and reports significant variances in job standards.
  • Trains and monitors the work of operators assigned to machines after first article verification.
  • Runs multiple CNC machines.
  • Performs secondary operations using various tools such as files, drill presses, and sanders.
  • Assists operators in inspection procedures, using proper tools and gauges.
  • Ensures quality before parts move to next process.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and general housekeeping.
  • Reports unsafe conditions to supervisors or maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5 years CNC setup experience.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Mandatory 4th axis machining experience.
  • Prototyping and first-piece development experience a plus.
  • Capable of running and setting up all CNC machines in the department.
  • Understanding and ability to modify basic CNC programs.
  • Ability to make fixtures and jigs.
  • Proficient with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Strong knowledge of producing top-quality precision aluminum components.
  • Ability to work with drawings, travelers, setup sheets, fixturing, offsets, tool setting, and program prove-out.
  • Basic program editing skills on Fanuc controls.
  • Ability to solve highly technical problems.
