Job description

An exciting opportunity exists at Barnes for a CNC Machinist. The ideal candidate will be responsible for various day-to-day functions, from set-up and loading to operating machinery efficiently. They will ensure the machine's performance supports production according to specifications, processes, and procedures in a manufacturing environment. Ensuring all parts fit correctly and are suitable for final product is essential.

Core Responsibilities:

1. Set up and produce machined parts on various machines (e.g., Mazak, Haas, JohnFord, Mori-Seiki, Okuma) following documented procedures.
2. Identify and load correct programs, fixtures, and tooling.
3. Ensure quality parts are produced to engineering specifications.
4. Verify setup through measurement of first-run parts and sample workpieces.
5. Inspect parts and maintain quality records as per work instructions.
6. Maintain equipment and supplies in work areas.
7. Inspect tools for wear or breakage and replace as needed.
8. Adjust zero shift or references, set tool registers, and offsets.
9. Troubleshoot malfunctions and call for repairs when necessary.
10. Document and communicate actions, irregularities, and needs across shifts.
11. Notify supervisors of product discrepancies or equipment issues.
12. Follow company policies, including safety regulations, and wear PPE as trained.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
14. Adhere to the Barnes Group Code of Business Ethics and Conduct.

Qualifications:

1. Experience with mechanical skills, including power tools and industrial vehicles.
2. Knowledge of computers, CNC machines, programming, and computer-aided manufacturing.
3. Experience editing G-code for efficiency is preferred.
4. Ability to read blueprints.
5. Mechanical inclination and attention to detail.
6. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
7. Self-motivated, team-oriented, with good interpersonal skills.
8. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
9. Adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
10. Understanding and compliance with safety standards.
11. Basic math skills and experience with measuring tools.
12. Knowledge of tolerances on blueprints.
13. Physical dexterity.
14. Good computer skills.
15. Familiarity with multi-spindle/multi-turret machines is a plus.
16. 5-7 years of related experience.

Education/Experience:

1. High School Diploma or GED required.
2. Trade school or journeyman experience preferred.
3. 2+ years of CNC setup and operation experience in manufacturing required.
