Job summary

Leupold & Stevens in Beaverton, Oregon seeks a CNC Machinist 1 to support part manufacture and finishing. You will operate production centers, perform basic setups on lathes and CNC machines, inspect parts, and maintain documentation in a fast-paced shop.

The role involves training coworkers and ensuring quality through careful setup and troubleshooting while adhering to safety and process standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and 2-3 years similar machining/manufacturing experience, or an equivalent combination of experience.
• Intermediate blueprint reading skills and ability to inspect part conformity.
• Basic math computation and understanding of geometric concepts for tooling and fixtures.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively and multitask on multiple machines.

Responsibilities

• Operate production centers, load material, and maintain lubricants and coolants as required.
• Set up on manual lathes, CNC turning centers, and other equipment as needed.
• Set up on various secondary operation machines such as drills, broaching, and honing centers.
• Inspect articles to verify specifications and identify defective products.
• Perform preventive maintenance and keep department records up to date.
• Assist in training coworkers and potentially lead temporarily.

Wednesday-Saturday, 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Base Rate $22.00 - $26.00/Hour + $1.00 Shift Differential

What You'll Be Doing as a CNC Machinist 1

Performs intermediate level machine operation and adjustments to support the manufacture and finishing of parts. Has beginning to intermediate level setup skills for departmental equipment.

• Operates various assigned production centers. Loads material, removes turnings, and maintains specified lubricants and coolants as required.
• Operates and performs basic set ups on departmental machines such as manual lathes, CNC turning centers, slotters, drill presses, etc.
• Operates and performs sets up on a variety of customized secondary operation machines, drill presses, thread tapers, dimple presses, washing tanks, broaching presses and honing centers.
• Inspects articles to verify conformance to specifications. Identifies damaged or inferior quality products.
• Performs necessary preventive machine maintenance and cleaning.
• Accurately and reliably maintains all paper work, or data input requirements of the department.
• Assists in training coworkers on how to operate, adjust, and set up machines. May perform in a temporary lead role.

Skills and Experiences You'll Need as a CNC Machinist 1

• High School diploma or equivalent and 2-3 years similar machining/manufacturing experience, or an equivalent combination of experience required.
• Intermediate blueprint reading skills. Ability to read blueprints and measurement gauges to inspect for part conformity.
• Basic math computation skills.
• Ability to understand and apply geometric concepts (e.g., angles and degrees) in making basic adjustments or setting up basic tooling and holding fixtures in the laser machines.
• Good organizational skills and ability to multi task (i.e., operate one machine while setting up another).
• Ability to read and communicate effectively.

Work Environment for a CNC Machinist 1

Work takes place in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and chemicals. Ability to use PPE. Ability to stand or sit for long periods; Good manual dexterity, fine motor skills, visual acuity, and ability to use full range of motion. Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds with assistance.
