Job summary

Smart Resources Group in Salt Lake City is seeking an experienced CNC Setup Machinist to independently set up and operate CNC mills and lathes, perform tool/work offset adjustments, and edit programs at the machine control.

The ideal candidate reads blueprints, interprets tolerances, and troubleshoots machining issues to maintain high quality parts; CAD/CAM experience preferred; schedule Monday–Thursday with overtime as required.

Qualifications

• Proven experience independently setting up and operating CNC equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, G-code, M-code, and machining specifications.
• CAD/CAM experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes independently.
• Tooling setups, workholding, and offsets adjustments.

• Edit CNC programs directly at the machine control.
• Machine and inspect parts to specified tolerances.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and adjust for accuracy.
• Assist with material preparation and shop operations.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

CNC Setup Machinist

Location: Salt Lake City, UT | Pay: $33–$36+/hr DOE | Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:0 AM–4:30 PM, with overtime as required | Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced CNC Setup Machinist with strong hands‑on experience in machine setup, operation, program adjustments, and precision machining. The ideal candidate can independently perform setups, troubleshoot machining issues, and consistently produce high‑quality parts to specified tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment.
• Perform tooling setups, workholding, and tool/work offset adjustments.
• Read and interpret blueprints, G-code, M-code, and machining specifications.
• Edit CNC programs directly at the machine control.
• Machine and inspect precision components to specified dimensional tolerances.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments to maintain accuracy and quality.
• Assist with material preparation, cutting, and general shop operations.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience independently setting up and operating CNC equipment.
• Experience with one or more of the following:
  • CNC lathes with live tooling
  • Vertical mills using hard and soft jaws
  • Citizen Swiss-type CNC machines, including push/pull operations
  • Horizontal mills with pallet systems and tombstones
• Strong understanding of CNC controls, program edits, and tool/work offsets.
• Ability to read blueprints, interpret dimensional tolerances, and use precision measuring instruments.
• CAD/CAM experience (Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar) preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail.
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, and ability to commute to Salt Lake City.
