Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating 3-axis CNC lathes and mills to produce high-volume precision parts used in the manufacturing of critical pump components. You will run production jobs, perform in-process inspections, and, ideally, handle machine setups and tooling changes. The position involves working primarily with iron, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel, with occasional plastic machining, while following blueprints and part diagrams to select and run the correct CNC programs.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate 3-axis CNC lathes and mills to produce production parts according to work orders and diagrams.
  • Run high-volume production machining jobs while maintaining consistent quality and throughput.
  • Load raw materials such as iron, brass, aluminum, stainless steel, and occasional plastics into CNC machines.
  • Select and load the appropriate CNC programs for each part based on orders, blueprints, and diagrams.
  • Perform 2 to 3 machine setups per day, including fixture changes, offsets, and tooling adjustments, as needed.
  • Inspect parts as they come off the machine using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
  • Measure parts to tolerances down to 0.0001 inch and document or communicate results as required.
  • Change out tooling and perform basic tool offsets to maintain part quality and machine performance.
  • Perform manual machining tasks when needed, including operating equipment such as drill presses and shears.
  • Read and interpret basic blueprints to understand dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
  • Monitor machine operation, identify issues, and make minor adjustments to ensure consistent quality and efficiency.
  • Assist with changeovers between jobs, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal downtime.
  • Lift and move materials and parts up to 40 lbs in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the machine shop.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and quality standards.
  • For more experienced candidates, edit M code and G code as needed to optimize programs or resolve minor issues.
Essential Skills
  • At least 6 months of experience in CNC machine operation in a production or similar environment.
  • Hands-on experience operating CNC mills and/or CNC lathes.
  • Ability to use micrometers and calipers to inspect parts and verify dimensions.
  • Ability to measure parts to tolerances down to 0.0001 inch using appropriate measuring tools.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints and part diagrams.
  • Experience loading materials into CNC machines, selecting programs, and running parts.
  • Capability to perform basic machine setups and changeovers under guidance.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs safely and repeatedly as required by the role.
  • Comfort working with metals such as iron, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel.
  • General machine operating experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience performing full CNC setups, including fixtures, offsets, and tooling adjustments.
  • Ability to change out tooling efficiently and troubleshoot basic tooling issues.
  • Familiarity with editing M code and G code to fine-tune programs (strong plus).
  • Manual machining experience, including operation of traditional machine tools.
  • Experience working in a climate-controlled machine shop environment.
  • Comfort operating additional equipment such as drill presses and shears.
  • Experience with 3-axis CNC machines in a production setting.
