The CNC Machinist will set up, operate and maintain CNC mills and lathes to produce aerospace components from engineering drawings, GD&T and precision instruments; ensure quality and tolerances meet customer specs; collaborate with engineering, quality and production teams to support production and custom fabrication

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or machining coursework preferred.
• 2+ years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment (aerospace experience preferred).
• Proficiency operating CNC mills and/or lathes; reading blueprints and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC machines, including mills and lathes, to produce precision components.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications, including GD&T.
• Select tooling, fixtures, and materials for machining operations; load and edit CNC programs (G-code).

For over half a century, Avcon Industries, Inc. has designed complex special-mission and ISR aircraft modifications. Avcon provisions aircraft with custom Pods, camera ports, radomes, equipment racks, mission consoles, underwing stores, and more. Avcon modifications support surveillance, patrol, target towing, searching and rescue and aerial survey missions. Avcon provides Turn-Key Product Design, Manufacture, Installation, Testing and FAA Certification support.

The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC equipment to manufacture precision components used in aerospace applications. This role works from engineering drawings and specifications to produce high-quality parts that meet strict tolerance and quality standards. The CNC Machinist collaborates closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to support both production and custom fabrication projects.

Essential Functions

• Set up and operate CNC machines, including mills and lathes, to produce precision components
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications, including GD&T
• Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials for machining operations
• Load, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs (G-code) as needed
• Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
• Ensure all parts meet required tolerances, quality standards, and customer specifications
• Identify and resolve machining issues, including tool wear, offsets, and machine performance
• Support prototype, custom, and low-volume production work
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and inspection results
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment

Qualifications & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or machining coursework preferred
• 2+ years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment (aerospace experience preferred)
• Proficiency operating CNC mills and/or lathes
• Experience reading and interpreting complex blueprints and GD&T
• Familiarity with G-code programming and editing
• Experience using precision measuring instruments
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
