Job summary

WireCo WorldGroup in the United States is seeking a Machinist to produce high‑quality wire rope fittings and threaded assemblies, reading blueprints and setting up manual and CNC equipment.

You will interpret drawings, select tooling, monitor processes, perform turning, milling, drilling, threading, and inspect parts to ensure dimensional accuracy; familiarity with CAM/CNC software and safe operation is required. Willingness to learn and follow WireCo policies is essential.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Manufacturing experience: minimum of one year.
  • Machining skills: working knowledge of grinders, lathes, and milling machines.
  • Technical skills: familiarity with CNC machinery and CAM software.
  • Blueprint reading: read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, dimensions, and specifications.
  • Mathematical skills: strong shop math, precise measurements.
  • Measurement skills: use micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Problem solving: analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Adaptability: learn new equipment and processes.
  • Safety: follow safety procedures and use PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work instructions to understand machining and production requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and prepare raw materials for machining and fabrication.
  • Set up, program, operate, and maintain manual and CNC machining equipment.
  • Perform turning, milling, drilling, grinding, threading, and other machining operations as required.
  • Produce wire rope fittings, threaded fabricated assemblies, and maintenance-related components to specified requirements.
  • Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining processes for assigned work.
  • Monitor machining and production processes, making adjustments or troubleshooting issues when necessary.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and product specifications.
  • Inspect completed parts and identify non-conforming material or workmanship.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, quality standards, work instructions, and WireCo policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

The Machinist is responsible for producing high-quality wire rope fittings and threading fabricated assemblies while following all WireCo policies, procedures, safety requirements, and work instructions.

This role performs a variety of machining activities, including manual machining, threading operations, fabrication of maintenance-related components, and CNC machine setup, programming, and operation. The Machinist is expected to read and interpret technical drawings, set up and operate equipment, monitor production processes, inspect completed work, and troubleshoot machining issues to ensure products meet quality and dimensional requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work instructions to understand machining and production requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Manufacturing Experience: Minimum of one year of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Machining Skills: Working knowledge of conventional machining equipment, including grinders, lathes, and milling machines.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery and software used in computer-aided manufacturing (CAM).
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, dimensions, and machining specifications.
  • Mathematical Skills: Strong shop math skills, including the ability to take precise measurements and perform geometric calculations.
  • Measurement Skills: Ability to properly use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve machining and production issues.
  • Adaptability: Ability and willingness to learn new equipment, machining techniques, and production processes and consistently meet established competency standards.
  • Safety: Ability to follow established safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CNC Experience: Two or more years of hands‑on experience setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines.
  • Machining Experience: Three or more years of comprehensive experience in the machining trade.
  • Software: Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk HSM CAM software.

The Machinist may work with equipment and tools including, but not limited to:

  • Manual and CNC-controlled metal lathes.
  • Vertical and horizontal milling machines.
  • Drill presses, sanders, grinders, bandsaws, threading machines, and other metalworking equipment.
  • Mobile production equipment, including tow motors and forklifts.
  • Precision measuring and testing devices, including ring gauges, hardness testers, tape measures, micrometers, dial calipers, proof loaders, and similar equipment.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed safety shoes.
  • Standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, mice, telephones, calculators, and multifunction copiers.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout a manufacturing facility during a 10–12-hour shift.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach, twist, and perform repetitive movements.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, elevated noise levels, and typical industrial manufacturing conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate or oversee production equipment and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
